ASUS has more features, while the gigabyte is a better built board.

Both clock well, but I woudl go with gigabyte for high fsb/blck. Even though you wont need too go high enough that you need a GB board if you are new.

Rev 1.0 UD5 has 12 phase power, rev 2.0 has 16 phase power, some other minor differences. i did an extensive review on teh X58A-UD5 rev 2.0 it is in my signature. Click and enjoy all the info you need on that particular board.

Either go with Rampage 3 or X58A-UD5 rev 2.0 or UD7 or UD9 or UD3r if you are on a budget.

A few changes to your setup, you need to get a triple channel DDR3 1600MHZ kit, 6GB, not 8gb. you want 3 sticks of ram for triple channel mode. IF you really want 8GB you can use 4 sticks of ram in triple channel hybrid mode as well.

You want to get a mUCH better PSU, get an XFX650 XXX nice proven seasonic unit for about 80 bucks.

DO NOT BE FOOLED by SATA6GB/S HDDS!!!! no HDD can use up SATA3GB/S bandwidth and will run better on SATA3G ports, don't pay extra for SATA6GB/S HDD, its a HUGE gimmick.

Get yourself a solid state drive, looks like you got some budget room, i suggest Sandforce drive with 285mbs read/275mb/s write, with 50K IOPS, Brands include Corsair Force, mushkin Castillo DELUXE, G.Skill Phenoix PRO. I don't buy, use, or touch anything OCZ.

Ok

AAA ; Ok Idont use OCZ , I am not very familiar with solid state cos most of the computer pack with sata . I will look around a gain for the solid state .

Thanks more in put please .

I feel the Asus ROG Boards Are built as good as any.. With all the options.

3x2gb ram is what you want Corsair Dominator GT ram is what i like

Yes the Cav BLk HD is good.

SS Drives are expensive. You can get maybe a 30gb one as a Boot drive then get a larger CAV Black hd to store all your stuff.

Power supply depends on what u want? I always suggest atleast a 1000watt psu.. Because you never know what you might upgrade to.

What is your finished build budget and ill put a rig together for you

WEll I found that the biggest boost to overall performance on my system was a SSD like going from a P4 to a i7900 series, no joke.

He wont need a 100watt PSu and I actually know a good bit about PSUs. Corsair is good aslong as you stick with AX and HX models, if you go CX or TX they suck, corsair is using lower quality caps and components in their lower brands nowadays.

A good build seasonic unit is what you want.

This is this guys first build, I doubt he will need a 1000 watt PSU.

you need to tell us budget and what youi want to do.

i am going to go out on a limb and say go with X58A-UD5 rev 2.0 because i don't think you will ever use those features on the ROG boards, they are more for extreme overclocking. Gigabyte X58 boards have 2OZ copper PCB, ASUS JUST added that into their P67 boards. The reason i recommend GB to you is because of the ease of use and the sheer durability and reliability.

I woudl just get normal Corsair 1600MHZ 6gb 2gbx3 kit CL8 or CL9 this is your first system so take it easy, no need to spend money on something you wont use. I suggest saving it and buying a nice 64 GB SSD, WHICH is now the smallest size for decent performance other than 40gb SSDs which are kinda too small for OS and programs.

Ah i did not read his first post =/

Got to keep it simple for him...

So nope you do not want an ROG board for your first build lol.

Give us a budget and we can put some good hardware together for you that is also easy to install and get stable with out any tweaking.

he gave m a budget of 1-3K I am going to get back to him tomorrow, i told him 980x was an option if he wanted to do 2-3K. I might suggest Sandybridge, but he woudl have to wait till after new years.

here is what I think he should do:

950=200-300
X58A-UD5=280
6GB 1600MHZ Corsair CL9 non dominator=100
C300 SATA6G SSD 64GB=140
ATI 5770= 130
WD Cavilier blck= unknown for size
Seasonic 850=120
Total=970

$970 does not include WD Cav BLK HDD, CASE, OPTICAL DRIVE, OR OS(windows 7 professional or home, whichever is cheapest)
you pick case and keep optical drive i will help you set it up. If you have a Microcenter store next to you they will match newegg on all the prices.

Hey The processor is 200 bucks at a Microcneter store instead of 300.

i edited my post, i thought you meant 3K, but 1.3K is much more reasonable.
