Help me with a sub choice please

Thread Starter
I have a Pioneer VSX-D458 receiver that I've had since the late 1990s and I love it. I just recently decided to hook my PC up to it after hearing how great the audio in BF'BC2 is. Previously I only used it for listening to music or surround sound watching a movie. But I've never got around to getting a sub for it.

Here are the specs for the receiver:http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...VSX-D458?tab=B

Currently I use Acoustic Research 215 PS speakers as the "main " speakers, specs here:http://www.crutchfield.com/S-J7gZcc4...ures_and_specs with some little Pioneer center, left and right surround sound speaker I got from my brother.

I was just wondering what would be a decent sub to use with this set up that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Do I need to buy a powered sub as ( I believe) my receiver is 5 X 100 Watts? I'd like to keep the price around 100-150$ if possible. What do you guys think?

with your receiver any powered sub would work, just go audition a few and get what you think sounds best. just make sure you freq response on the sub is lower than 75Hz.

And it's prolly gonna be better to go with the powered sub, so yes, go audition a few.

Check out lava subs. Nice bang for buck sub and will go nicely with the rest of your gear.

For your price range I'd say: BIC America F12

It's ~$180, so slightly out of the range you posted, but if you can swing it, it would be worth it IMO.
