R.A.T. owners (5 in particular)

Thread Starter
Thinking of getting R.A.T. 5 after Christmas, I've heard overall niceness about it. Don't need the 7 or 9 buttons, so not really worth it for the extra DPI. Any thoughts, tips, tricks, etc?

I just got one myself and so far so good. Feels great.

The 7 and 9 don't have any more buttons than 5, they are just more configurable (7 has an adjustable thumb and pinky wrest and 2 palm rests (I think) to choose from relative to 5, 9 is wireless) which might be worth it for you in the long run depending on your preferences.

The thumb wheel is awesome. I've been using it for zooming in and out on my browser just to give you one example of the many things it's well suited for.

The button count doesn't include the regular mouse wheel or the left and right mouse buttons so if you want to add those into the equation... I got a R.A.T 9 .

I'm interested in purchasing a R.A.T. 7 but stumbled upon this review:
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/rev...g_mouse_ever_0
The tester gave the mouse an exceptional rating, but the comments are quite negative. According to them, the R.A.T series does handle black surfaces very poorly (specially the z axis) and once you attach the big wing for the pinky of the 7 and 9 edition, the mouse feels sloppy.

Would someone share his experience regarding those points?

I'm using a black mouse pad and have zero issues so far. On occasions, the sensors had to be cleaned or the mouse would move erratically but that's about it.

Might wanna uninstall and then download a fresh copy (newer version?) and reinstall it again.

Yeah, several times, this has actually happened to me before, and I was able to reinstall with no problems, but no luck this time....

Rat-7 owner. I LOVE the pinky rest. Thumbwheel, precision aim button, *cough*rapidfire *cough*, on the fly dpi adjustment, and the ability to increase its length and weight.

No probs on a Xigmatek silver mousepad. Bass from my sub rattles it around easily, and the sensor does need to be cleaned occasionally.

Overall, most comfortable mouse I've ever owned.
