USB audio adapter

Thread Starter
I want to use a pair of ATH-A700's and a Zalman mic clip with my ps3. I want to know if anyone has a setup like this using an adapter like this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035
I want to be sure to get a compatible one that works with the PS3.
Also if I use something like this will I still beable to hear the game sounds or just the people talking.

Supposively those work for microphones but not audio. Maybe plug the microphone into that and then buy something like this to plug the PS3 white and red cables into and the headphone jack into the other end

The PS3 can't process in-game audio through the USB ports.

An RCA to mini-jack adapter like the one coppertop4646 posted won't work either. You'll need to plug the RCA cables into a receiver or amp of some kind if you want to use headphones for in-game audio.

Not true, it works fine. You just take the PS3 RCA cables and plug the red and white into one end of the adapter and then plug your headphones into the other side of the adapter then set audio output settings to RCA.

How do you control volume?

Your also saying that the A/V out of the PS3 provides enough power for the drivers in a pair of ATH-A700s? They may pass some signal, but would probably end up sounding like crap wouldn't they?

Go to sound settings and turn on "Audio Multi-Output." I use a female RCA to 3.5mm jack for my nice speakers. I use HDMI for video on a monitor with junk speakers and needed a way to use my nice speakers too and this works perfectly. I was just lucky enough to have the right cables around.

It provides plenty of power to drive the headphones, you'll probably have to turn the volume down a notch or two in the games if there's no volume control on the device.

I used a straight RCA>3.5mm adapter for awhile, and it worked fine for headphones.

Good to know, I didn't think it would work that way.
