Will a PCI Express 2.1 x16 work in PCI Express x16?

Somebody bought me a new PC. It has really ****ty integrated graphics. It's a slimline PC, so I needed a low profile video card. I don't need a fantastic one, just one that'll do what I need it to do. (Light video editing, Sims 3, Starcraft II, Aero) I'm going to buy this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102875&cm_re=5570_low_profile-_-14-102-875-_-Product

It's a PCI Express 2.1 x16 card, but the motherboard is PCI Express x16.

Will it work in a PCI Express x16 slot? I've already worried about the case, power supply, and whatnot.

It will work the 1.0, 2.0, 2.1 are just different revisions of the pci-e x16 for example 1.0a to 2.0 doubled the bandwith and 2.1 just added some support infrastructure and all the cards are backwards compatible you may just loose some throughput if the slot is pci-e x16 1.0

I've heard it will work, just not run at it's full speed.

Yeah basically, it could bottleneck if its a version 1.0 x16 slot, although it would be unlikely for that card.

Does anybody know if the graphics card will fit? My only worry is that the case is really ****ing small. It is low profile, but I'm still really worried about it fitting and being able to close the case.

It'll work even in a x1 pci-e slot since it's ATI. Nvidia will bottleneck a lot.

You could keep your case open and get a better card.

I have this same problem. I'm trying to put functional but not top of the line PCIe card in my MS7207 (PCIe1.0) mobo. I have heard some people swear there will be no issues and some say my system won't even recongnize the new card. ***? I was gonna buy a GeForce (prolly a 210 w/ 1g DDR2 RAM or w/e) but now I'm worried about that. Anybody wanna chime in? \

@Noobishness---> Is there really a noticeable diff. btwn ATI/NVidia?

there will be no issues with pci express nor bottlenecking bandwidth with a 5570 c'mon guys wth.gif....as for fitting inside a case?......well low profile has a standard which means that if a case is rated for it then it will fit......what kind of pc is it?......is it the HP Pavilion Slimline s5603w?....if yes then it will fit however the power supply which comes with that pc is only 220 watts which means it's actually about 150ish watts and that video card requires 400 which means that a quality 350 watt will be good enough but HP has their own power supply which will be the only one that will fit in this case:(......am i making sense:headscrat

The difference of a 2.0 and a 2.1 PCI-E won't be noticed on your card (as said earlier) as for it's size I don't know. A 1.0 PCI-E x16 is the same as 2.0 PCI-E x8 effectively and a noticeable difference can't even be seen in higher-end cards.
Since PCI-E 2.0 x8 & PCI-E 1.0 x16 have that same bandwidth I can use THIS comparison to prove my point.

@Atreyu5050 As for the difference between ATI ans Nvidia, the fanboys will tell you that their brand is the best but really it depends on the current hardware that is out, currently the GTX 580 is better than the 6970 but the 6990 is out soon. What two cards are you comparing?
(some say that Nvidia drivers are more stable but I do not know)

I hope this helps.
Joe.

@Sandy:

Really I meant as far as bottlenecking of bandwidth (or is it throughput?) there seemed to be some suggestion that one would do better with backlwards compatibilty than the other:

I wouldn't worry if I had PCIe1.1, but my mobo is 1.0, before they realized it might have to be compatible with anything else. I read somewheres that this might be an issue with some cards. Is this possible?
