PC-To Be Decided

post #1 of 50
Thread Starter
Alright so a little of you know that I am starting a system building company,
basically I will be constructing a prototype to best gaming consoles with the
comfort and fun of a game console. I'll get started with the Specs for the prototype
and then the actual product.

<Protoype>

Antec 300

-> Intake
-> 2x Coolermaster R4 120mm

-> Exhaust
-> Antec Tri Cool 120mm
-> Antec Tri Cool 140mm

Corsair CX 430

MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX Mainboard

-> AMD Athlon II x3 Rana 3.1GHz
-> 4 GB of 1600 DDR3 RAM

-> Video Cards
-> GTS 250 (Primary card)
-> GT 430 (Secondary card / PhysX card)

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB (Overkill, but I have one laying around)

DVD-ROM Asus OEM

-<Final Product>-

Antec 300

-> Intake
-> 2x Coolermaster R4 (Blue) 120mm

-> Exhaust
-> Antec Tri Cool 120mm
-> Antec Tri Cool 140mm

Corsair CX 430

MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX Mainboard

-> AMD Athlon II x3 Rana 3.1GHz
-> 4 GB of 1333 DDR3 RAM

-> Video Cards
-> GTS 450 (Primary card)
-> GT 430 (Secondary card / PhysX card)

WD Caviar Blue HDD 320 GB

DVD-ROM Asus OEM

-<Final Product Reaper Edition>-

Antec 300

-> Intake
-> 2x Cooler master R4 (red) 120mm

-> Exhaust
-> Antec Tri Cool 120mm
-> Antec Tri Cool 140mm

Corsair CX 500

MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX Mainboard

-> AMD Athlon II x4
-> 4 GB of 1600 DDR3 RAM

-> Video Cards
-> GTX 460 (Primary card)
-> GT 430 (Secondary card / PhysX card)

Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB

DVD-ROM Asus OEM

After looking through all of the info based on the versions its safe to say that
the reaper edition will perform far much better however the only reason to buy a
reaper edition is to SOMEWHAT future proof yourself, every 2 years a new generation
of the "Console-PC" it is probable that the Reaper Edition may have edge over the
normal version after a 3 years over the standard 2 years.

The software basis, I would probably sell these off of my website and I would say
that steam or Games for Windows live are the best options, games for windows live
means that the user can keep in touch with friends from Xbox live, however steam
being a PC only network, it is probably more liable and has more features available
for PC only users, however this can be set aside as hardware is currently the main
concern, getting the best price performance out on the market while gaining the
least amount of profit in turn gaining more profit from more sales.

Marketing isn't a current concern so I won't go there to avoid subliminal advertisement.

I am also wondering if it is allowed to start a small fund into getting a final product
built, please leave a post regarding this. I will be ordering the parts after Christmas
leave comments questions and criticism and I'll be happy to answer, I will also be selling the first fully completed prototype for 10% off.

So, the point of these is that they are low budget gaming systems you can hook up to your tv and play pc games on at low settings?
post #3 of 50
You do realize gaming consoles and PCs are different right?

Also looking over this thread a few times, I fail to understand what you are doing apart from putting low end parts into computers. If you are going for the approach of comfort of a console, why are you using an Antec 300? Antec 300 is mid tower case, MUCH bigger than an Xbox or PS3. Your better off using a mini-atx case.

Why a DVD rom? You need a Blu-ray for PS3.

Antec 300?
If I was a family I wouldn't want that big thing over a small console like the xbox/wii.
Look for a iTX mobo/case or possibly mATX.

Corsair 430 got really bad reviews it ended up being a 300w unit, so make sure you are ok with that.

Physx card for low budget system seems silly, spend more on the primary card and be done with it.
A GTX 460 seems more appropriate since there isn't that many physx games to begin with.

Alright, can you suggest a somewhat decent mini-atx case, Ive just used the antec 300 before and their not that much bigger then an xbox.

True, I agree however you can get somewhat better gameplay with a physx card. But you stated that their isn't many physx games witch I agree with.

I'm sure you can get very decent framerates on high settings with most games, however a prototype can only tell in my opinion.

(Sorry for the tri-post)

Anyways, I will try to work in some suggestions and work out some issues that I can possibly for-see.
