Virus protection question - Found one lol

Thread Starter
I am used to just being a able to download software and not worry about it. But now with this computer I'm not so sure. So what I have been doing is downloading on my mac (windows software so even if it had a virus wouldn't do anything) putting it on a jump drive (have autorun on my PC off) and scanning the thumb drive with kapersky. Is this fool proof or are there other steps I should take?

Peer to Peer guards that you guys might recommend when using those type's of connections?

Just general, firewalls, p2p gaurds, anything.

Looking for advice on this, thanks guys!

Yeah that should be fine aslong as you scan the file b4 opening it but i havent had any virus's recently even with torrents aslong as you dont click on pop ups or go on unknown links.

sounds like someone is downloading lotta pron LOL ! Would you like an account for Realitykings.com or Bangbros.com ?

I use Windows Security Essentials and it hasn't failed me yet. Stays updated, realtime protection, uses very little resources, and its FREE !

Use a good adblocker. I've seen several instances of, though not fallen victim to, forums being served infected ads from the ad servers.

***** No it isn't porn that I am downloading, if so I would have just said porn. But just software, like cyberduck, manycam, doubletwist, there are sites with legit versions and then sites with viruses ridden copies.

But I do use bit-torrent (Not illegally) but was thinking about buying BTGaurd, anyone have it?

But what I see it as is one big juicy folder of peoples IPs that download torrents that if a court or government could get into all these people would be SOL.

I would not pay for protection when plenty of good free ones exist. I doubt you are getting viruses, but rather you are bloating up your computer with software.

Try experimenting in VirtualBox or VMWare, you can run said programs in a Windows environment seperate to your own, test everything in there, if you get viruses in there, it doesn't matter because it doesn't go to the native OS.

Not so worried about viruses as I am loading them onto a drive and scanning the drive to make sure it is clean which should be good.

I am more worried about being tracked while downloading torrents.

Also I have two F3s and one 500GB HDD that doesn't have anything important on it and is not connected to the OS. Could I throw the programs onto there are run from there and if they do have a virus not affect OS?

Ahem! i download a lot.

all i do is right click on scan with malwarebytes and avast or MSE.
i have never had a problem yet.

on the torrent sites, i always read the comments, this helps.
no comments no download
and no strange links

also twice a week i make a full system image just in case

your way does sound safe, but too labour and time intensive for me

correct me if i am wrong guys, but if you run them on a limited account ie. not an admin account then a virus is limited in its power to affect the OS as a limited account has limited permissions
