Is there anyway to start up without CPU FAN header

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I have a P7P55 LX motherboard. I have linked up all the fans on my heatsink onto my fan controller so i have to use the side fan as the CPU fan. The fan hardly can fit in my case and it ends up pressing up onto the heatsink. Is there anyway i can start my computer up without the cpu fan header being used? Thanks in advance

I am not sure I understand your question. You have no fan on your heatsink? Bad idea in general. Not for the novice overclocker...

You should be able to start the computer up without the CPU fan headering being connected right away. However I expect you will get a warning during POST that you have to press a key to go past. Maybe it will even prevent you from booting? I've not seen that.

You should be able to disable that warning if that is the problem you are having, take a look in the BIOS under hardware monitoring or something similarly named and select disable for the CPU fan header.

It seems to me that it never boots so I will check BIOS next time i restart. Thanks heaps

usually it beeps and doesn't do any thing, what i do when i semi passively cool it is use fan controller on the case fans and the nearest fan i use a cable that splits off the yellow wire and plug the yellow wire on to the cpu fan header.

what this is doing is giving the mobo a fan RPM reading even the though the fan is hooked to a controller.

Nice, somewhere in among the BIOS you should be able to disable the error, or disabled the CPU fan header itself and thus the error. I haven't seen many boards where you can't do that.

Yeah nice, that yellow wire only trick is probably the best way around the issue if there is no way to disable the error altogether, which hopefully is an unlikely outcome.

Yellow wire trick is probably your best bet.

At least your board isn't as annoying as my HTPC's, it complains if you don't have a case fan hooked up too as well as the cpu fan and won't boot unless you manually intervene..

At the hardware monitor section of the bios, at the CPU FAN RPM choose Ignored and it won't bother you again
