The move is intended to ensure that children are not exposed to sex as a routine by-product of the internet. It follows warnings about the hidden damage being done to children by sex sites.

The biggest broadband providers, including BT, Virgin Media and TalkTalk, are being called to a meeting next month by Ed Vaizey, the communications minister, and will be asked to change how pornography gets into homes.
Well uh, this is interesting. It seems the whole world is trying to pull an Australia, bit by bit.

I can safely say ...this will never reach fruition.

Claire Perry, the Tory MP for Devizes and a keen lobbyist for more restrictions, said: "Unless we show leadership, the internet industry is not going to self-regulate. The minister has said he will get the ISPs together and say, 'Either you clean out your stables or we are going to do it for you'."
Censoring the internet, dohoho.

"In the past, internet porn was regarded as a moral issue or a matter of taste. Now it has become a mental health issue because we now know the damage it is causing. We are seeing perverse sexual behavior among children. Legislation is both justifiable and feasible."

Oh look they're trying to goveren the net again. This won't work. It never has.

Ha, MP for Devizes, I should go yell at her. Anyway, this story is complete load of rubbish. They don't want to ban porn at all, they want to change the way it gets into homes. That might mean using a .xxx domain or whatever.

But, to say "UK government to ban porn" is a rather stupid title.
Yes, just like how you can't find any child pornography, bestiality, snuff films or pirated stuff on the internet now because of their blockages... What a load of nonsense. Focus on stuff where government intervention can actually help and leave the parenting up to parents.

If a parent doesn't want their kids watching two people doing something completely natural, let the parents set up nanny software.

The more I read the article, the worse the report gets. First, they say it's a proposed opt in system where you have to opt in to say you want porn. The actual system they want to use is similar to BT's CleanFeed where as an ISP customer, you can opt into a service that automatically gets rid of pornography. So, not only is the article 80% guesswork, they don't even understand the system that is being proposed.

Stupidity like this starts false rumours and this thread (along with others from places like Fud), should be removed.
