FooBar - Unsupported Stream Format

Thread Starter
I am using FooBar2000 with a WASAPI plugin, but when I try and play one FLAC track, I get this error:
Quote:
Unrecoverable playback error: Unsupported stream format: 22050 Hz / 24-bit / 1 channels

Anyone know what/why?

Well here is what I gathered:
The FooBar WASAPI plugin didn't support 24-Bit audio when it was first released, but that was patched. Then it seems like it isn't compatible with some sound cards, and WASAPI and onboard realtek don't mix well at all. What hardware/software versions are you using?
EDIT:
Also, try setting Primary Sound Driver instead of WASAPI in Foobar (for output that is) to check it works like that.

Well, it supports 24bit for sure because I have other 24bit/96Khz tracks that I use. I'm just using the latest WASAPI plugin and FooBar2000 with my Realtek optical output.

Anyway, DirectStream worked which implies there is nothing wrong with FooBar2000 or Realtek, more that the WASAPI plugin or my DacMagic (which says 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96) doesn't seem compatible with 22Khz outputs.

Is the flac track actually a 22050 Hz / 24-bit / 1 channel track? Seems an odd format to rip to.

EDIT - If it is a 22050 Hz / 24-bit / 1 channel track then most likely your onboard doesn't support that format. Windows mixer (primary sound driver) is prolly re-sampling to a supported format, WASAPI (or ASIO) bypass the windows mixer and any re-sampling for bit matched playback - the track must be in a sample rate/bit depth supported by the sound device though.

Yes, the track is a 5hz-100hz rolling scale.

I made an edit^ I have had this with ASIO on my STX, I have JRiver as a player now with an option to re-sample any tracks in the app before ASIO sends it to the soundcard.

Very simple fix. This happens when the sample rate of the sound file you're playing isn't set to what you told windows what it is. What you need to do is go into foobar and resample it to your usual sample rate.

Isn't the concept of WASAPI to bypass software based re-sampling. By using it, neither Foobar2000 nor Windows re-samples anything. My DAC is solely responsible for all upsampling.

Sure, but that'd mean you will have to reconfigure it every time there's a different sample rate. I have many different sample rates and I find it just simpler to resample with pphs.

But, with WASAPI it seems to switch on the fly fine between 24/96 and 16/44.1. This is confirmed by my DAC which actually shows the input sampling rate changing.

I believe it's just that my DAC does not support 22Khz
