Xbox 360 Cooling shroud & Nitro Legacy fans with switch

Hi guys, just a quick thread to show you the temperatures & method of my cooling mod for the 360 (in this case a Falcon motherboard).

Original stock temps were:
idle (auto) > CPU 49C & GPU 58C / Load > CPU 55C & GPU 68C

After mod:
idle (auto) > CPU 44C & GPU 51C / Load > CPU 47C & GPU 56C
idle (nitro) > CPU 37C & GPU 44C / Load > CPU 39C & GPU 49C

Here's the console and shroud:

The image below details the modifications.
The Red boxes are the card shrouds. One above the GPU and the other on top of the CPU (which extends out to the top of the floating GPU heatsink - I have a plan for this to be added to in the future).
The Yellow boxes is the ribbon cable for the nitro switch. This runs on top of the GPU shroud and is taped in place. Power is connected to the back of the dvd drive with a splitter cable.

The ribbon cable runs to the front of the console (Yellow) and hides over the memory card slot behind the faceplate. The DVD drive has rubber strips (Blue) mounted along the edge, making contact with all 4 sides of the case, to absorb vibrations.

I also cut out the rear grill to increase airflow. As you can see the whisper nitro fans are installed (pushing around 65CFM in Nitro mode). I also added some tape to the space between the shroud and case, as air was sneeking through.

Hope this post was helpful for all of you out there interested in cooling. If there's enough interest I can post a comparison with a Xenon console. Let me know what you guys think

The gpu gets horrible air flow. The heatsink can cook an egg while tye cpu heatsink is cold to the touch.

Aye, quite nice, clean work too. I had done something similar to that on an old Jasper 360 I had (before it RROD'd for good) Where I had shrouded the GPU heatsink and CPU heatsink. I'm getting another RROD'd Jasper soon, and now intend to take it to the level you have, the little fin pointing down off the CPU heatsink to the GPU's heat-pipe heatsink is a nice touch.

Do the rubber strips around the DVD drive help at all?

Hi thanks for your post. They do reduce noise from the drive. It is not as irritating when the drive spins up now. They have to be fitted carefully as clearance issues with the front faceplate can occur. I'm waiting on a wire arriving so I can attach a small fan to the floating gpu heatsink. Will repost pics and info on that soon. In the meantime good luck with the Jasper
