The 775 desktop socket was introduced in 2006.
The 1366 was introduced in Q4 2008.
As of right now, there are still many processors available for 775 on newegg. And with C2Q's still offering plenty of muscle for today's needs, I can see it lasting for a few more years (at least).
Of course, this is just personal speculation. But, a socket 775 rig that was build in 2006 can still be viable in 2012 (with an updated C2Q). I'd expect 1366 to still be viable in 2014 or so.... Maybe also with a 6core 12 thread processor....
