Open cans also lack sound reflection that can impact lows and mids dramatically. Although they state they give you better "field of view" with sound I haven't noticed no such thing except for sound leakage. And for what you are looking for, yea, stand clear of open cans.

Have fun with the ones your picking up. Sound pretty good.

Go online go to guitar center. dt770 80 ohms $139.
I had them, I took back got the 250 ohms More base but cant get great sound out of a ipod or small device.
I got mine thought a pioneer elite thought via toslink SOUNDS GREAT. i got infinity speakers With 200 watt subs built in each speaker (2003 bought them). THe sound is great, Put on headphones sounds like it. With bass and all. A few times gaming i had to take off headset to make sure subs are not firing.
Great sound im a bass head Love blues ,rock, bluegrass, grunge ,Dub fx all sound great.
Hendrix sounds great too. i had Beethoven 5th on flac. Well alot more sounds then i ever heard before.

well for the need, I'd go Sennheiser HD280 Pro

Very good isolation, clamps a little bit though.
$100 from many places online.
