Q6600 and an ECS 650i Sli

Thread Starter
Pretty inexperienced at overclocking tbh, but im a bit stumped with this.

I have read that the ECS 650i SLI is pretty poor at overclocking and from my experience, id say that's true, but the highest I can get it to is 3ghz. I would think it would push a little more then that? Can someone look at my specs and tell me if theres anything they think might help?

Not to bad. Yes the 650i and 680i are not to good with quads. You won't have to much of a problem if you were using a duo. Try raising the CPU votage a bit and adjust the memory to 5-5-5-15-2T.

I'll start oc'ing in the morning, but for the time being, when I pump the fsb up to 1378 it won't go past post. You think that might be caused by too low of a voltage? also, what would you think 3ghz Voltage would be so I know approx how much to put it up. I kept it on auto this whole time so im not too sure lol. I wanna aim for 3.2 by Christmas and ANY help is appreciated. ;D

Cheers

Kieron

evga and xfx 680i's were very good with quads... that being said this is pretty good for a 650i.

Mornin'

So you think its theoretically possible to get about 3.2 out of this mobo? Normally I wouldn't ask, but there is absolutely no OC info for the ECS 650i. Appart from people slagging it off, which I'm on there side with that.

I had an nforce 650sli board before my p43 and I was able to hit 3.4 Ghz on it easy. Try using the settings below:

The q6600 on the average needs between 1.34v~1.38v (on air) to hit 3.4 Ghz (depending on the CPU vid). Don't worry the q6600 has a max Vcore of 1.55v so setting it to 1.38 v should definitely help you push your chip higher.

I'm assuming the mem volts you're using are the prescribed volts by your mem manufacturer? I would personally loosen the timings more if possible to ensure that the mems are not holding you back with your OC. Also re-check the recommended voltage for them and set accordingly.

The ramv are pushed up by about 0.05 ish. I found it helped keep everything stable.

Are the modifications to my setup what you would do for 3ghz or 3.2-4?

I don't think I said, but at 3ghz it runs extremely well. Prime95 for a few hours = 60c max ;D

set cpu voltage to 1.48v and the FSB to 1.40 and try to get higher..

If it doesnt work out just be happy you are able to hit 3.0... The extra 200 or so MHz isnt going to make a world of difference.

What are your options for your ram? I would try and keep is as close to or below its rated frequency & timings.
When you raise your FSB it also will change your Ram frequency and that can cause problems if it wont run at the faster speed.

The other option would be trying looser timings, 5-5-5-15 may help. But my experience has been keeping it close to its rated speed, maybe even lower..

Il give that a go now, but one thing, I do not know what ram i have or its speed. Sounds funny I know, but i got it on warranty when my other ram packed in.

Personally it does look like budget ram which would probably explain some of the picky oc settings. There a pretty accurate way of finding out? (It doesn't say on its label either)
