I was going to ask about GA, it's the only game I'm really considering today.

Thanks for the opinion

Is Mount and Blade like Total War in the fact you can expand the areas you have conquered and develop and army? Do you just control yourself or do you issue commands at all? And in multiplayer is it just solo?

You shouldn't have done that.

It happened to me when I bought DiRT 2 and Star Wars KOTOR on the black friday deals, I thought I had been scammed at first as well. I decided that maybe it was because the servers had been hammered so I decided to leave it for 24 hours and see if they would pop up. I looked the next day and they were happily sitting in my library.

It's because the servers are so busy, I'm sure they will pop up in due time.

Multiplayer can become up to 64v64 player battles.

Singleplayer you can command even bigger armies. So SP is in a sense like TW but on a smaller scale but you can actually directly take action in it so that is nice.

No, you get troops by recruiting them in villages while traveling the world map mostly and you level them up through battle and with the training skill.
Getting territory takes time, it'll be a while before you get your first castle since you need ~150-200 troops (unless you're lucky) to conquer one (you start with... 0 troops) and you need to level up and battle a lot to get big army sizes.

Controls are limited, you can give orders on the fly to groups (infantry/archers/cavalry/custom groups, although you can't modify the custom groups in battle) to attack/move/ etc or use the map to give them with more precision.
