They all need over 30MB/s to function and it's either just go to USB3 or include enough USB2 controllers to give each port full speed. (i.e. Not going to happen and still limiting everything else)

by your logic pretty much every product is a ripoff because it is sold for more than it costs to make.

Everyone knows Microsoft created the software for kinect overnight and it didnt cost anything to develop right? Microsoft is in the business to make money, they took a huge multi-billion gamble with kinect and it seems to be working, there is no need to call it a ripoff

Because it uses a proprietary connector on the slim 360s, and uses an adapter on the older ones. You'd think they'd use some sort of higher bandwidth interface since they moved to a new connector. It wouldn't have been hard to design in a USB 3.0 controller on the new board.

Im not sure if anyone here actually knows the situation with the Kinect. Right now the device is limited to 16 MB/s. This is due to the usb hub on the 360 done by firmware. The hub itself is capable of delivering 35 MB/s, but MS limited throughput because multiple usb devices can be connected to the 360 at any given time. The Kinect itself only needs a maximum of 20 GB/s for the advancement they are speaking of, so if MS can dynamically allocated bandwidth within the hub via firmware then there will be a considerable increase in performance for the device. There is no need for usb 3.0 or any inherent hardware change through this method as it is solely a software solution.

I cant help but feel that often people do not keep up with the articles or technology in general and really only recognize keywords like gigahertz, usb 3.0, pci-e x16, etc.

The proprietary connector itself simply delivers more power than what is capable with the usb port. Usb 3.0 is simply not needed in this situation and a board redesign would completely omit the potential millions of consumers that have the older 360 model from adopting the Kinect thus virtually destroying their userbase. A board redesign would be an extremely idiotic move for the device.

But then the older 360 owners get stuck with USB2.0 and no Kinect, or the current style of it.
