Unusual Problem

First off, sorry for posting here but I couldnt really find an apporpriate forum for fault finding. Please move if necessary.

Ok, that out of the way, I was wondering if members could help me out as my PC has started to perform with a strange trait. Every now and again the computer will stutter and slowly grind to holt with all programs freezing and the system just locking up. No error message or BSOD. It just stays like this until I do a hard reset. When it restarts, all the stored passwords and ID for internet explorer have been removed.

There doesnt seem to be a set time or period in which this occurs either although it does seem to be load related as I left the PC on overnight doing nothing and it was fine in the morning. I've tried a clean install thinking it might be a driver fault and anti virus shows up clean.

Any ideas?

Had the exact problem you described described with my old system (Athlon XP 3000+; yr. 2003). I've done HDD formats, clean OS installs, cleaning of the hardware, and also took apart/put back together all the components. Still stuck with the problem you have

Someone suggested replacing the CMOS battery (since my build is old)... haven't got around to doing that yet though.

Would be interested to hear what others have to say on this issue.

lets try ram first? OCCT and MEMtest that could be haulting. what are your temps?

i mean you do a clean install but if it happens starts up again its not your OS/drivers

make sure everything is seated correctly but for now start with ram

It passes MemTest without any errors and temps dont get above 62oC under load. It mainly seems to occur when transferring large files about from one drive to another or to the home server.

Im wondering if its an issue with one of my internal drives. I've chkdsk both of them and they seem to pass ok but Im wondering if Intel has a tool for checking its SSD's

EDIT: just tried the intel toolbox and it passes ok.

try a linx run. memtest is fine but it won't actually let you know if perhaps it's a timing related issue or voltage issue for ram/qpi etc. i'm with kornholio, to me this sounds like a ram problem. you've ran prime95 small fft and blend or have ran linx/ibt? that's what i'd try to do.

Sorry for the delay in getting back with this. Christmas etc took over. The problem is still there and it does seem to be a load issue as it happens most when Im encoding with Nero Vision and running a game or something at the same time.

I've tried mem test and lynx and it passes fine.
