Recommend me a LGA 1156 Mobo that can take i5 760 to 4ghz+ and supports CF. - Page 3

I highly recommend a Maximus III Formula

My i5 750 is at 4Ghz right now on a 1.27 vcore. Combine that with some megahalems, and my temps are 33/60C.

Not a bad deal at all and will still perform well. Just because SB is coming, doesn't meant that the 760 is going to perform worse.

Q9550: sold for 150€

i5 760: bought for 140€

DDR2 RAM: Sold for 100€.

Brand new DDR3: 60€ 4gb kit

P5Q Pro: Sold for 65€

New mobo: around 100€

So: I sold my stuff for a total of 310€

And will buy LGA 1156 plaftform for a total of: 300€

Sandy Bridge WON'T COST THAT, and this way I'll be having a platform that will be performing really close to SB.

I'm sure the Lynnfield CPUs won't be far behind.
You would rather get a chip that will just hit 4GHz now when you can wait 2-3 weeks and get a chip that will do 4.7+ on air for a little bit more?

Its not just the CPU though. Lynnfield's PCIe controller is 1.1 (well, its 2.0 with 1.1 bandwidth). Sandy Bridge has double the bandwidth, which means you're set for things like USB 3.0 and SATA6.

What is the difference anyway?

I'm getting this build to last me a good 3 years.

If an i5 760 doesn't, then so won't SB quads.

LGA 1156 is a deadend socket now, LGA 1155 will be in a year. Big deal.

PanicProne, the 1156 platform will last you a long while, you're fine with it.

But seriously, look into the board I have, the ASUS Sabertooth 55i. I have my Xeon OC'd to over 4GHz. I'm sure it will be no problem for your i5.

I was actually considering that one. And it's rather cheap too. 130€

I don't know what is the big deal with getting a LGA 1156 build. It will be exactly the same as getting LGA 1155. They are twin sockets.

You complain that LGA 1156 is a deadend, and the LGA 1155 is not? Don't count on it.

SB will be 10% faster... yay! Not.

I second the Maximus III i have done 2 client builds with it and I have fallen In love. Its a great board. Also, Yoko, who do you think you are? MSI is quite a solid company I don't know where you get this stuff from about boards lighting on fire. Maybe there have been a few cases but that does not make a company.

Like I said, don't worry about it. The thing about most people on OCN is that the majority of us are enthusiasts that want the latest tech almost at all times. I had an Athlon 64 3200+ for a good 5+ years before I decided it was time to upgrade.

There's no such thing as "dead end." If the computer works and does what you want it to do, then it will be fine.
