Sony NEX-5?? - Page 3

Thread Starter
i know, in my local costco they have the T2i body, 18-55mm lens, and the 55-250mm lens all for $800.00 which i think is awesome!! so ill probably go the canon route either way, and if i need small i can always get a small point and shoot for the pocket if need be!

i was meaning in the beginning that the sony had cool factor....its metal, cheaper than the t2i and small enough for my wife to use, like i said then the store guy told me the 55-200mm lens or whatever size it is for the sony was $800.00 i nearly pooped my shorts.....so price wise the nex-5 is small and cool but the t2i cheaper with more features i can learn on in the future

Simply someone doesn't need the features of T2i and that's it! G1 does the job perfectly for me, and that's it there's nothing else to add.

As Remix said Canon or Nikon are better cameras, but simply for me I prefer something else and don't need the quality/whatever from them...

Try it out and see if you like it...if not send it back and get something else!
canon and nikon are not that dominant. the numbers are about 32-30 with canon numbers going down and nikon's going up. sony might be 3rd with a teen percentage.

the first Gh1's are hackable thru firmware to produce much better HD video image quality than t2i, 5D and 7D. panasonic have since released firmware to prevent that. i dont understand why they would. (i suspect canon and nikon people paid them a visit). you can google or youtube more on this gh1 firmware hack.

i wouldnt say the t2i doesnt have too many features. if anything it is underfeatured. i've played with my t2i a little bit. i have about a month or 2 of learning about the camera and basic photography.
now the 7D or D7000 now those seem like the real real deal. then again i dont want to get sucked in...

i have some choices to make whether i wanna carry equipment around like commando...

for my style and agility if the t2i had a swivel lcd i'd be almost perfect. a few minutes after unboxing it i was already getting frustrated with the lcd. and first impressions matter a lot to me..
touch-sensitive lcds (on phones and camcorders) have been out a while now but dont seem to have made it to the cameras.

camera features/innovation from the big players just seems kinda slow. anything new from the other players is quick to be put down.
the little dudes have some marketing to do. to me there's really no difference btwn a canon or nikon camera. they look exactly the same minus the logo. sometimes i think ppl have taken sides on what is essentially the same thing just with different names.

Any camera can turn out fantastic images in the hands of a good photographer. It's like a musician. Give Jimmy Page a cheap Epiphone and he'll still sound like Jimmy Page.

Your comparison of Windows to Canon and Nikon is bad. A better would be comparing photography to audio recording. The standard in the audio world is ProTools. Almost every single professional recording studio is equipped with some sort of ProTools setup, even if it's just so they can import the audio to another software package. Are there better, more-featured programs for the price than ProTools? Absolutely. Sonar, Cubase, Reason, Logic, Reaper, and Ableton Live are all perfectly capable programs that cost less than a top-of-the-line system that uses ProTools. But it's the concept of a standard. The reason why Canon and Nikon are the standards today is because they won the battles in the earlier days of photography. Nikon developed better metering and brought autofocus to the professional market, while Canon improved autofocus to the point where every sports shooter on the sidelines at a big football game would have a Canon camera.

As far as prices, they can get away with that because of a little thing called economics. Photographers might feel they get enough more utility out of a Canon or Nikon over other manufacturers, and so they'll be okay paying more money for it! Demand drives the market. And with the exception of the inherent features of an EVIL camera (like EVF and a smaller body), most features on the other manufacturers aren't huge improvements (or are just comparable or even inferior) over what Canon and Nikon have done. Sure, the features are comparable between a Nikon D7000 and Pentax K-5, but I've already bought into the Nikon system and it works for me. If I had bought a Pentax SLR, I'd be drooling all over the K-5 as a potential upgrade.

That reason is just preposterous. Canon and Nikon are businesses, just like Pentax, Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic. Of course they want you to buy their products--that's how any business makes money! It's not like the other manufacturers are saints that are losing money on every camera they sell. Sure, competition might bring prices down, but it already has to an extent. The Canon 60D, Nikon D7000, and Pentax K-5 all sell for around the same price for the same feature set, with Pentax having the slightest of edges. Similarly, the Canon 5D Mark II, Nikon D700, and Sony A900 all sell for about $2500, and each camera is perfectly capable and turns out fantastic images. The Canon has the best (and the only) video mode of the the three, the Sony has the highest resolution images, and the Nikon has the best build quality and autofocus system. Just depends on what you have and what you need.
i think now nikon make their own sensors.

yes if photography depends on teh photographer doesnt the type of camera.

yes in the audio world any production software can get the job done and done right. its not about protools anymore. there are many popular songs on the radio made on fruityloops, reason, and cubase. many which are doing better than the songs produced on protools. its not about the production tools. its about the creativity of the artist/producer and how much faster they can work with what they have. or just simply what they like.

autofocus:
autofocus is nice. and when i unboxed the t2i it performed all right. but after getting into playing with manual made everything much more fun. the point system of the t2i seems ok. but i think the nikon has a lot more and would be even more precise.
but for now for what i know i think autofocus is fine and fast.

i went to a christmas party and a lot of ppl had p&s cameras all about 5-8 megapixels. one guy asked me waht mine had (t2i) and i said 18 and he almost ****ted in his pants.
canon raises the megapixels and ppl think its all about the megapixels.

NOT FOR ME!! so yes canon and nikon are the big boys........mostly cause they have been there from the beginning...........you CANT argue that

if u were to go canon/nikon... i would highly consider nikon for their image quality. nikon > canon in the same class. nikon always seems to have less grainy pictures and better colors. and camera seems to have better focus.
of course it'd almost be depended on what you value most out of a camera to decide btwn a canon or nikon. other ppl might value portability more.

some ppl like laptops computers to have it with them all the time, others desktops computers to do heavy duty stuff. others both.
it all the depends on the user and what they value out of a camera.

if u pooped coz of a $800 lens i pity your as5hole when u learn more about lenses...

depending too much on the viewfinder could limit your creativity.

u might need to get close to the ground, or be upclose to the wall, or raise your camera as high as u can...

i unboxed my t2i and had to use it for a party in a few hours and didnt know how to activate the lcd so i had to use the viewfinder. it was nice to use the viewfinder but it didnt give me no real advantage using it.
they say using the viewfinder makes the camera a little more steady.. but a lot of images still came out blurry.
but since i'd just literally unboxed the camera i cant blame it on the poor images. i still have a lot to learn about it.

i read somewhere they said if i wanted sharp images under low light a tripod is a must.
