what would be a comarable nvidia card to my 5870? - Page 2

But in these reviews it's often slower than gtx 470s, BUT the overclockability of the 5870 is much better, so I would say it beats the gtx470... but still slower than the gtx480 in most games.

the problem would be crossfire... the 5870s fails big on this... even the slower 6870 beat if on CF because of better scaling.
the 6870 alone also beats the 5870 when tesselation is on - as well as the 470 (that's why we see many cases where the 470 wins in those "comercial" reviews)
Still.. My opnion is that no single card of today is able to handle a game with tesselation alone, you eighter go multi GPU or wait for the future, where I see tesselation shining...
6870 is slower than 5870 in tessalation too. Just saw benches

Don't switch to a similar nvidia card. stay with your 5870 and buy a good aftermarket cooler, or any cooler, really.
It won't be noisy and... your overclocking room will greatly increase, because heat plays a huge role when overclocking any AMD card...

Don't know if you already know this, but if you get a 1000/1300 OC on a 5870 with 1.25v and 90C stable, for example, you would only need 1.2v, for example, if you kept the card at, for example, 70C.. So... use that voltage reduction and temp to reach a 1050/1300OC, for example

If you're going to upgrade, I'd suggest a 580 or 570 over a 480 now. Faster cards that run cooler.
In progress.

You could be right, I have to confess I haven't seen many reviews with tesselation ON, only one, to be exact, and a single 6870 beat a single 5870...

Will dosome research on this when I have the time

Comparable to a 5870 is a GTX 470. If you want to upgrade from a 5870 I would recommend a GTX 580 so you can feel the upgrade.

I just googled for this matter, and I think we've seen different results... everywhere I saw people saying that the 6870 is better, as well as bench results...

I was thinking of switching to nvidia because folding@home is supposed to run better on nvidia. gaming wise and performance I am completely happy I get over 60fps in any game with my 5870. Its oc to 1049 1320 at 1255mV at about 60c max temp

5870 is somewhere in between a 470 and 480 depending upon the game. 5870 CF is closer to 470 SLI than 480 SLI though.

5870 is between the 480 and 470, it's closer to the 470 usually but in certain games it can almost beat the 480 (BFBC2, F1 2010).
