Well, my LCD is very capable of fast paced games, it has a 2ms response time. However, there's something about it. I swear it causes more eye-strain than the old CRT's.
But yeah, they sure do weigh a lot. The ones I'm picking up weigh 56 lbs. each... But the color quality, sharpness, contrast, --just overall picture quality, is unmatched by LCD that I have seen in person. Samsungs come close.

The one's I'm getting are Trinitron flatscreens.

I totally see where you're coming from. Whether the difference between the image was actual framerate or not, is one thing. However, to me, there was a discernible difference between each frame rate. Perhaps it has to do with my monitors ultra fast response time.

I think sometimes people can experience input lag and put this down to a slow frame rate even though it might be another problem.

Very true, especially in on-line gaming.

But it makes you wonder, the high end monitors that are coming out these days are 120Hz. Most people are probably running a 60-75Hz monitor, yet they're all wrapped up in frame rates --when they can't even see them.

Although, when the GPU is able to pump out considerably more FPS than the monitors refresh rate, it gives the appearance (illusion) that the game runs smoother.

60 FPS was decided on for LCD's since the flicker of CRT's is not present with LCD's. However, with CRT monitors, 60 Hz is unacceptable since screen flicker is very detectable at that refresh rate. Most CRT's have a refresh rate of 85Hz.

I remember old school PC gaming when we thought 25 FPS was incredible on our 14" CRT monitors.

I was never really concerned with FPS until I got a PC. I had macs up until '98/'99.

But I remember quakin (Q3) it up on that iMac G3, 640x480, all the bells and whistles turned off, and 250 ping. Ohhh yeah baby!

more if better like if you play eg crysis (ya its always crysis)
sommth at 60 and it gets heavy (soothing etc) it can drop to eg 40-30 fps and still verry playble

where you get 30 fps smooth and gets hevey you get 10-15 and you will see the lag 110%

so how higher the frame rate how higher the frame rate will be if the game gets heavy

its just obivios tho

I have no proof for this but I can see a difference when doing lightning fast 180 dropshots in COD4,6,7 between 60 fps and 70. I can catch a glimpse of the guy spraying a clip into my skull a bit faster so I can adjust my crosshair for his head before he can move his cursor down to my proned position. I've had troubles with this when I was using my backup card (ati 5450) which only gave me 55fps @ 1680x1050 so I chose to run 800x600 to keep minimum fps above 70 which fixed the problem. Anything above 70 or 75 I can't really tell a difference. It's early and I'm tired but kudos to the dude that said whatever looks fluid to you is what you should run it at, not all eyes are the same, not all 60 fps is the same (60 fps without microstutter is much better than 80 fps with microstutter is what I mean).
