GTX 460 DIED today :( - Page 4

I find it funny how everyone offers their opinions on a companys rma process although nobody has any personal experience to offer. I rma'd my gtx 460. I did it through Palit as it was out of the 30 day return time frame as what the other person was mentioning was incorrect about rma'ing to the company you bought it from. The turn around was very fast and they through in a tshirt along with it. Longest part was shipping both ways and no it doesnt involve shipping outside of the country. I want to say I shipped it to Missouri but I cant remember correctly.

edit: the only thing i was required to provide them was screenshots of the artifacting

Mosfet troubles with video cards... oh my, oh my, and I thought MSI 4+1 power phase AM3 motherboards + 125W processors were bad enough

Highly recommend not telling the technicians that you baked it in an oven if you RMA it. I'd leave that detail out. Not to sound like a shifty jerk or anything.

Anyone have a plastic cover for the video card? The black plastic piece that has the cheap orange fan on it.
Check eBay for a dead card of a similar model. These forums are also a good idea, and you are already asking here. Maybe start a thread specifically asking for the cooler? You may have already done that.

If you RMA make sure to remove serial numbers off of the stock cooler because they will not match the PCB and that will look bad.

Below is a copy of an original email from Palit:

Dear customer

It's no need to register Palit graphic card product.
Palit provides two years manufacturer warranty since production to its direct distributors. (Note: Not to the resellers and end-users.)
For various business consideration or trade conditions local distributors or resellers might have their own warranty regulation or policy.
As I know customers purchase Palit graphic card from Newegg also have two years manufacturer warranty since production.
So if you need warranty service please contact us and then we'll guide you to the correct window.
Thanks.

This is what I was told when I attempted to register one of their cards. It sounds like they somehow offer a warranty through the distributor. Confusing as hell. It also does not bode well that the form message they send out appears to have been translated from Taiwanese to English through a software program.

The did politely offer to tell me how to jump out of a window, though.

I'm just suggesting that you should not mention such things (over-clocking, water blocks, baking cards in ovens) unless they ask you and that you should try to send it in as close to the original condition as possible.

Well, they first want you to RMA it from where you bought it according to that company's RMA plan (30 days or shorter generally from most US companies and then you have to RMA through Palit.

Are you sure they are not just telling their customers to walk to the top floor a tall building with the video card and jump out of a window?
