Get i7 870 or wait for Bulldozer

Thread Starter
So I ordered i7 870 couple days ago and now I'm having second thoughts...
I'm thinking of canceling the order and waiting for AMD Bulldozer. There are two problems: one, will the Bulldozer come out in January 2011 and second will it be better than i7 870 ?

Wait for Bulldozer. It's probably going to be cheaper than anything Intel has at that same performance level.

I'm not worried too much for the price, I'm worried if it will come out soon enough because I will go crazy without my PC for longer period of time XD

Why are you ordering a CPU from a dead socket? Should of waited for Sandy Bridge at least!

Yeah that was the same question I began to ask my self . I can cancel it, it's no probem, but the problem is how long do I have to wait for the new Intel or AMD.
Since my motherboard broke a week ago, I'm without a PC atm, using an old laptop.

So I wanted to get my PC running as soon as I can and upgrade it in the same time.
I thought of waiting for the new processors but it could take months before they come out and that's just too long time for me to be without PC.

And when SB will be out he will think why not to wait until Sandy Ivy. SB will have same DDR3 ram, new processor with integrated GPU (***?) and who knows what kind of price will be here in Croatia. maybe he will have to pay more for less performance, i think that SB is futureproof as much as 1156 now

Don't wait for anything if you need the upgrade now. Sandy Bridge doesn't seem like it will be a significant upgrade so I wouldn't worry about feeling like 1156 is a dead socket. The efficiency of the Lynnfield series of processors will last for a long time. Sure, some things SB will be better with, but why wait when you need something now?

Bulldozer isn't slated until April by the way so you would have to wait longer. Even then the only benefit to it I see is cheaper 6 cores, or more efficient 6 cores.

If you need/want to upgrade now, go ahead and do it. Just get something you can actually utilize and a motherboard that's future proof (USB3/SATA3) and you should be fine until the next socket architecture comes out, or AMD makes improvements onto Bulldozer.

That's what I'm doing, waiting for maybe the 2nd or 3rd revision of Bulldozer.
