I currently run my chip at 4.35ghz at 1.52v bios ( llc raises to 1.55 load.) The highest temp I see is 48c. How much voltage can this thing take, maybe not completely 24/7 as I now turn off my machine every now and then, but pretty much. Is 1.6v or even 1.65v attainable as long as temps are good?

Yeah should be good.

Thats about the max I would wanna send through my chip, and motherboard.

1.55 is AMD's max an personally I wouldn't push it past 1.5 for 24/7. You do have great temps an could probably go up to 1.6 though I just wouldn't do it 24/7.

You probably won't get much out of 1.6v as that will push your heat up to the limit and AMD chips like to be cold, the colder the better.

I wouldn't go pass 1.55v unless you're using extreme cool.

i wouldnt do 1.6v 24/7, maybe just to bench once in a while.. 4.35ghz 48c load is pretty good for a 965
post #7 of 25
if you can keep it cool go for 1.6V. But I would not use it 24/7 at that. Now my 1090T i have been running chilled water and 1.6V 24/7 @ 4.4ghz. just be carefull.
If it's very cold where you live open a window till it's freezing in your room and run a (as in one) bench at 1.65v once in a while if you wish.

1.6v 24/7 should not be a problem under water for 24/7

48c seems high for watercooling, try reseating the block use the dot in the middle technique when applying thermal paste. Spreading tends to leave air bubbles unless you seat your block/heatsink from an angle and as far as I know even that is not proven to remove all air bubbles. If this doesn't drop temps you should lap the CPU, mine had two concave dimples above the AMD logo where thermal paste loved to linger not all heat spreaders are perfectly flat.

Well I do appreciate the advice, but if you'll read a little lower in my sig, both the cpu and cpu block are lapped. I JUST reseated this block with a rice grain, and you have to remember.... 1. I live in Florida 2. There is a 6870 in my loop 3. I'm running a 965 at 4.35ghz, which what a surprise, makes a ton of heat. 4. This chip is hotter than some others, but oc's better than most others. But thanks none the less, your intensions were good I'm sure. doh.gif

1.55v for air and 1.6v for water is what I would say for a Phenom II quad.

Also 48'C is excellent with that OC under water.
