so i have this card.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=6017459&sku=P450-0257
and i installed this bios http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/68855/XFX.GTS250.1024.091225.html

So now my gpu z says i have 1024mb of ram.
I even was able to overclock it to 1150

SO you think its legit? the 1024mb card looks like the same thing except diff heatsink.

I highly doubt they would leave 512mb of ram on the PCB unused..

sure way to find out is would be to test the different bioses under high resolution and see if you get a notable fps difference - but I'm pretty sure it's just reading bios information that says 1gig, not detecting actual 1gig

Yep. Do some benchmarks at higher resolutions and compare the two. If you did unlock it then that's awesome, good for you thumb.gif But it's likely that it's just getting that information for your bios. I've only heard of the GTX 465s being unlocked and if you could unlock your GTS 250 I'm sure someone would of figured it out by now.

Well i am trying to use all the ram but its kinda hard lol
i will update if i can prove there is more than 512mb
post #6 of 20
Download everest and then run a benchmark or some form of intensive CUDA based program, or play a very high quality game with high res textures @ 1080p+.

Use everests OSD/gpu info tool to monitor the GPU Mem usage?

That may prove it?

I agree with the others, GPU-Z reading the cards bios as 1gb though. Highly unlikely they would leave 512mb ram unused on the pcb's.

Shouldn't be too hard because todays game can easily use more than 512mb. Good luck though, maybe you'll get lucky and see some improvement. Just make sure they are clocked the same.

how much do i need to go over 512mb to prove?
i mean there is no system memory interfering is there??
I'd say since your trying to prove uve unlocked to 1024mb, 1024mb but thats just me...

Anyone else?

EDIT- System memory only plays around if youve got one of the cards that can share your RAM.
