Should I upgrade to a 6970 cf?

Thread Starter
So i currently have two reference 5870s and i was interested in getting 2 6970. i mostly game and im running eyefinity right now. i was wondering if i would see an improvement in my performance with the new cards. ive been hearing because of the 2gb vram of the card, it performs better at larger resolutions.

They scale very nicely, you should get a great performance boost over your current setup especially at higher resolutions and your minimum fps will go up greatly. Go for it.

thanks guys, my big deciding factor now is trying to get rid of these two 5870s so i dont feel so bad spending all this money on two 6970!

I think it would be a waste of money except for games that need 2gb of vram to play at eyefinity resolutions at max settings and AA like stalker or metro2033. I was debating on returning my 6870s, but after seeing benchmarks, I don't think it's worth it.

Nothing wrong with waiting but the gamer inside me says DOOO EEEETTTT!!!

I plan to go 6970 CF too when I get a better PSU to support 2 6970s.

In some instances, an overclocked 6970 is faster than CF 5870s. That aside, it's like saying a regular 911 is not fast enough and you need to go to jail that much faster in a 911 GT3. Hehe...

I bought two 6970's for their GPGPU capabilities.
Now to sell the remaining 5870's I have *cough* look in the for sale section *cough*.
