HAF build: tubing route advice

Thread Starter
Like my introductory states. This will be my water cooling build from scratch. I read a thread where others have been posting their setups for input. I was hoping to get some on how I could possibly reduce my tubing length.

I have a rough mockup done with just rad/res/pump. I haven't purchased the mobo or CPU yet as I am awaiting the results of what Sandybridge has to offer.

I should start with this. I am aware the rx360 may not be sufficient for an i7 and 2x 480gtx SLI. I have purchased an inline temp sensor and if it goes above 45-50c then I will put another rad in. Untill then we will see what happens.

SO, what we have here is 2 480gtx and an i7. No overclocking untill I see what temps are in the loop. I would like to keep as many bays as possible open, which is why the res is the 3rd bay down (as close to the top). I have in the past kicked myself for not having bays open and wanting to use them. I have a dangerden fillport which is a very tight squeeze to get connected to the top of the res.

The setup is as follows: res/pump/cpu/gpu/gpu/rad/res

My initial thought is to have the rad barbs hidden by the 5.25 bay slots, which is how it is mocked up. I don't prefer the look of them at the back of the case. This leads to an entaglement of hose in that area. I have some coil coming in to keep it all straight but, it's still a little unsightly. I have a t-line on the pump input, hidden behind the 5.25 bays for draining the system.

Sorry for the long post.

I am in the same boat as you but this is how I routed it

My loop: same reso as you > mcp655 > hd5770 > hd5770 > 120 > cpu > 360 > reso, right now with doing nothing, my gpu's are at 28°C and my CPU is 31°C idle... under load without OC, my card hits 36ish and my cpu is at around 39ish

when i get my new tubing im rerouting mine behind the mobo tray and such, but hey little advice make the rad barbs closer to where your pump sits if your top mounting, and use the barb farthest into the case for the inlet, the one closer to the back for the outlet so you can hide the lines as much as possible, oh and FYI, punch out the metal drive bay inserts and connect your res and everything from the front, it will make life much easier

I think those are tolerable temps. But I don't have the extra 120 rad as you do. I hope mine are close to that.

Yeah, I think I'll see the same if not lower temps when I get my GTX 570 and OC...

Having a 90 degree inlet on the pump significantly reduces performance. You should rotate your pump to the inlet is facings upwards, and then use the outlet on the side of pump top to run straight to your graphics card. This would increase pump performance and get rid of that bend in the tubing.
