[noob] Should i get a 212+ or dark knight r3

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Im new at building comps and even upgrading and was wondering which CPU cooler would be better for my planned new comp

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-computer.html.

Will the 212 plus fit in my case?

Which would be more effective and if they are close to the same should i save the money and go with a tx3?

Or is there a better option in the same price range or a little bit more?

Thanks,
Bohica

Hyper 212+ is better, obviously. but If you can get the Xigmatek dark knight R3 then I highly recommend you do that, it's one of the best CPU coolers that I had. It used to keep my Core 2 Duo E7400 in the twenty eights after overclocking it to 3.5GHz, I had to change it as I didn't have the LGA1156 bracket but If I had it I never would've changed it

So the xigmatek dark knight r3 for $58 is worth the money over a 212 plus for $31?

So i have now totally discarded the tx3 about to remove it from the title

So...
212 plus @ $31
or
dark knight r3 @ $58
or
Another option that is better

I'm not totally sold on spending $60 on a heatsink and fan when i feel the benefits over a $30 one are minimal

Any other opinions

I've had my 212+ cooling my q6600 and at load using prime95 max temp is at 54*C (push only setup) so for $31 it's as good as it's going to get. The dark knight is only cooler by 0.1*C and it's not worth the $20 difference in price.

Check out this link:

http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...id=2562&page=5

If you notice (fan speed, 150w test, 85w test, db) they're literally side by side in terms of performance based on the test above:

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 (high-16.8*C-10.7*C-50.7db)
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus (high-16.9*C-10.9*C-50.1db)

I further improved the performance of my 212+ by getting coolermaster r4 fan's (vertical position only since sleeve bearing) that pump out 90cfm and are rated at 19db. The original blademaster's are rated at 23db pumping out about 60cfm.

You never really know about your cooler until you have slept with it for at least a month.
