February Upgrade Path?

Hey all.

I am moving to Australia in February and my brother's been asking me if he can buy some of my PC components when I do move.

If I sell them, obviously I will have to buy new components and obviously I won't want to get the same ones, I may as well upgrade.

So the question is simple, really. I haven't been reading up on the latest happenings with Intel's Motherboards and CPU's, so what would be best course of action be?

I was looking at i7 950's but I understand Sandy Bridge should be out soon? Is that worth waiting for?

I don't want to go for anything mega expensive however something better than the i5 at least. Also, something that I can have fun over clocking with my water setup.

I found a 920 on eBay that can do 4.4GHz: Link. Would that be worth picking up if I can get it cheap rather than getting a 950 or Sandy Bridge? I mean, 4.4 GHz is quite nice.

Yea, wait for sandy bridge, and see what sort of performance it offers, plus you do know parts on Australia cost way! more than in the UK right

Yeah, I know that. I'll probably be buying the processor before I move over. They're not that much more expensive.

In fact, some things are cheaper: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=15316

Works out at £210.

Can you give me any reasons to wait? Will the price be cheaper than i7? From what I see, they perform on-par with i7 950's?

So from what I gather I'll need a 1155 motherboard for that. Any news on the pricing of those? Sandy Bridge does look very nice, actually, but from what I hear, 1155 is the mainstream socket and not the enthusiast socket?

Seems to me that an i7 950 will outperform Sandy Bridge 1155's.

Sandy Bridge is worth the wait. I see a lot of grumpy Core I7 950 owners in the next few weeks
