Corsair Dominator Not up to par

Thread Starter
I have a 4Gb Corsair Dominator 1600 C9(9-9-9-24) Kit and cannot get it up to 1600Mhz for anything. I tried when I was originally OC'ing the system and the set I have will only go up to 1488 (744 in CPU-Z). Anything above that is not stable to boot. I gave up and decided to park it at 744 and found I could bring my timing to (7-7-7-20) stable.

My question is would I get better performance at 1600Mhz and (9-9-9-24) timing or should I stick with the 1488 (7-7-7-20)?

I read that the fastest DDR3 Currently is 1333mhz and that everything over that is OC'ed.

Are you providing the RAM with enough voltage? I believe Dominators need 1.65v.

I think that is what the sticker says on the ram, I have only given them 1.6v so far. The voltage value in the bios turns red after that and I have been weary of going beyond that setting.

check the following things:
are the dominators on the qualified vendor list

put them at spec voltage (1.65), spec timings and spec frequency, then run memtest (1pass should do)

if they fail the memtest try 9 9 9 25 and repeat

Remember that Dominators are Intel optimized... so you may need to tweak them a little.

you should be fine. most dominators from my experience do not cooperate well unless you run them at the rated voltage.

i wouldnt worry about the bios turning the value red it is merely a precaution since most other brands run their memory below 1.6v

Thanks, I pushed the voltages for the first time to 1.65 and got the mem speed above 1600mhz. I brought it back down to the 744 mark and got an extra stable 200 mhz out of my processor. I am about to get new ram all together and am thinking about theseRipJaws 8gb (Newegg). Same Timings and gives me the ability to jump up to 16gb when I get an extra 100.00 to throw at the system.

It depends, you might see better performance because usually 1600 9-9-9 equals 1333 7-7-7. If you can ever manage 1600 9-9-9 test it with MaxxMem.

Try timing them at 8.8.8.29 @1600 at 1.651volts. I am running two 1090 rigs with 4 2 gig sticks at that setting without issue. I also have another set running at 1800 at 1.7V but it is at 9.9.9.29 on a Amd 955.

What is your motherboard?
