[Help wanted] GTX295

Thread Starter
Hey there, i posted in the database thread but no luck..so guess this is the place..
A friend of mine got an i7 950, on a gigabyte X58 mobo, and a Quad-SLI GTX295...
I know these are power drainers, so which PSU does he need to get this workin?
According to what i saw, each GTX295 drains about 300 Watts in load (dunno if it's true) + the other components, is the Silverstone 1500W enough?

I'm a big noob in PSU things, but i've seen the power consumption and it's like 300 per card, x4 = 1200W =X
Ohh well.. Thanks for the help.. +rep

As a side-note... do you mean 4 separate GTX 295 cards? If so, I thought that wasn't possible because the GTX 295 is already a card with two GPUs on it, so you can only SLI two cards together?
So he got a single card or 2 and he's quadfiring?

750w plenty for a single card...for 2 + headroom to spare for a decent OC, I'd say a 950-1000.

I'd wait until Phaedrus or TwoCables chime in though.

Eh, you know that Quad SLI means 2 GTX 295's right?

Anyways, each GTX 295 will consume around 300W~. Your system would run just fine on a good quality 750W PSU.

Get him a good 850W or 1000W PSU if you are feeling uneasy though, that works just as well.

Eh, Quadfire is for ATI.

4 gtx 295's? If so, 1200W should be around enough. If its two, 750W is perfectly fine. If he really wants the 1500W PSU, let him get it. A power supply will only use the amount of power that is needed, so not much money is wasted on power (except for the fact that the PSU will cost a ^*%* load of cash)

Ohh dang.. dual GPU, that's why.. I knew i was missing something, so it must be 2 cards only..
Anyway so 750-800W is good to go right?

And just in case he has gone really nuts and got 4 GTX295, which one is the best?
