i7 860 vcore and VTT voltage questions

Thread Starter
Just got my new(used) i7 860 and EVGA P55 FTW board installed and bean OCing yesterday. Achieved and easy 4.0ghz, and eventually hit 4.2ghz, but I want more. cool.gif

Currently, my vcore and VTT voltages are at 1.4v and 1.425v respectively. I am having minor stability issues when stress testing(no problems with normal use) and thinking it may be time to bump voltages up a lil more. Is it normal to need this kind of voltage for these OCs? Temps are in check at around 66-68C under Prime95 load.

Thanks!

1.4vcore is supposed to be the absolute limit for your chip.

1.4vtt is also supposed to be the absolute limit.

Anything further, and you're taking a risk of hurting your chip.

Up to you man....

1.4v will be safe and the max voltage for vCore and VTT.

When you have enough cooling on board then you can take your voltages up a little further without harming your chip.

Nevertheless, allways use caution with applying voltage, especially when your over the specified limits.

Up to you man....

1.55v is actually the Vcore limit for his chip, So he can push further imho.

VTT... I wouldn't go further than 1.400, Getting risky.

Good luck with your overclock! smile.gif

Good to know about the 1.55v.

In Intel's docs (linked above) it shows:

Vcore: 1.4v
VTT: 1.4v
PLL: 1.98v
VDimm: 1.80v

Where did you reference 1.55 from?

Just curious...

The 'original' Lynnfield spec showed a 1.55v max vcore along with a paltry 1.21v max vtt. In July with the i7 875k release they revised the max limits as posted above. Seems that there is some wiggle room here with the original lynnfield cpus.

i know this thread is old, but i was wondering the same thing myself. im at 4ghz with my 860 right now and in order to maintain stability i need 1.3975 vcore. thats 1 notch below the absolute maximum. i also read a few posts where people said 1.5 was the absolute max vcore, but the intel spec sheet reads 1.4 which one is it? i means as far as the 860 is concerned.

Int i5 7xx & i7 8xx series are the same absolute max of 1.40v for vcore & vtt

The i7 9xx series is 1.55v
