Video Issue? (5870)

Thread Starter
Just purchased this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102883

Recently I have been having these weird lock ups. Basically while I am playing a game (Usually wow) the game will freeze then the screen will go a tan-ish color with multi colored lines then a horrid noise will scream at me then computer restart. I have checked the logs nothing is being put in it, no errors nothing..

Never had this issue till I put this card in now once or twice a day I can expect it.

Any suggestions/Ideas? I am using 10.11 drivers, I see that 10.12 are out so I will try these but not sure if it's a driver issue or hardware issue?

Thanks for any help

Edit- Temps according to gpuz are idle 34c and 65c load

Have you tried replacing the PCI-E connector with another one? It may a be a faulty connector causing an intermittent power issue, which may only happen when the GPU is loaded and the power draw is bigger. Or it may just be a faulty PSU altogether.

Other factors to try are changing the card to another PCI-E slot or trying another card if you have one spare to rule out a faulty PCI-E slot.

Wow you guys are quick. I will plug in the other power connectors to it, and ya I uninstalled drivers and used driver sweeper. I had a 4890 prior that ended up dying but before it died never had this issue at all.

Thanks guys I will update later to see if the power wire swap works.

If you're having this problem, I would personally just RMA the thing. Newegg RMA process is easy from what I've heard. I had a power color 5870 that made these green pixels all over my screen and I RMA'ed it and got the pcs+ in return actually and I've never had another problem with it. Good luck!

I cut the upc for the MIR so rma is out of the question I have to deal with Sapphire for a replacement now. I put a support ticket in with them yesterday regarding this issue here is their response

Provide the part# and sku# of the card and send it to (Email taken out not sure if it's against the rules to leave it, so better safe than sorry) to request for bios update that might be able to help with this issue.

Never updated a video card bios so kinda iffy on doing it.. I updated with 10.12 drivers yesterday and not one incident so that's progress. I didn't do any 25mans which it seems to cause the issue more, but not sure if it was just random because it was happening just being afk in org.

Thanks again

I got a reply from sapphire they sent me a .tst file. Issue I am having is I followed the directions to the "T" and when I am in dos I get a error 0fl01. I tried using atiflash -i and it says Adapter not found.

I am using Atiflash 3.79, made a dos bootable usb drive, put atiflash & the .tst file they gave me on the usb drive. I loaded up RBE in windows and it shows the card & current bios.

So i am doing something wrong?

Ok so I tried out their new improved bios I cannot go past 1400x1050 resolution now.. So I revert back to the old bios and cannot go past 1400x1050 & my screen wont fit in my monitor now, basically a 1inch area around the outside all the way around.. So yet another ticket..

Anyone have any ideas on how I can at least go back to the old ones? I have uninstalled drivers, then did the bios still same. I am getting really frustrated =(
