gentlemen...

would i be best off just to sell one of the 6870's then? if my motherboard+ram+cpu combo is not sufficient for running 2 x 6870's, i would rather just sell one of the cards.

Chances are if your not sure about if its installed or not it probably isnt. But you could look in the device manager and see if theres any ! then that will tell you something is missing a driver. Even if it doesnt though it could mean it has a generic driver so it would be good to find out what you have (hardware) and find all the drivers for that said hardware and install them.

Here is the link for Windows 7 64bit: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...win7-64.aspx#3

there are no "!" in my device manager...i know that for sure. but, i guess i should check to see if i have the "best" driver installed for that.

no, keep it.

you could still see quite a lot of improvement over single 6870. but not as much as x58 users have. all you need is to overclock that cpu. your cooler seems to be capable. just overclock that thing near 4.0Ghz and you'll have yourself a 5970 killer.

no 10.12 is latest and best drivers for your crossfire setup. and there won't be any new releases soon because 10.12 has just been released.

I have the same mobo and I'm thinking about getting another 6870 and throwing it in crossfire....how did you make out, was it worth the extra $250?
