Hey guys,
I've been reading up on allot of powersupply articles out there in search of my problem, but I can't seem to find any info on my issue.

Whenever I put any graphical load on my single 5770, my power supply squeels like it was shot in the thigh while taking a **** in an outhouse!

There's no way i'm putting more than 400W of load on my PSU, so why on earth does this thing squeal during graphical load?

Thanks
-Jason

Yeah, I do have a warranty and RMA possibilities, but other users of this PSU had the same issues after RMAing.

This is also my only unit, so I can't sell it anywhere. If I do buy a new unit though, i'll be sure to RMA, because some of the sleeving is battered in certain places.

Okay, thanks for the help.

The unit is fantastic for my needs, and i've read plenty of reviews emphasizing the good build quality, and while I can only expect 600 or so watts, it'l last me a couple years.

I can deal with the noise.

Lol where did you read that unit had good build quality? It's a piece of junk that deserves to die in a fire.

Actually, I JUST read 4 review sites giving the PSU good reviews.
They all point out that the PSU does squeel.

Hardware secrets was the only site I saw that gave it horrible reviews. They complained about the unit not being able to supply 750W at high temps.
Yet on TT's website, it only guarantees 750W output at 40* celcius.
Hardware secrets pushed the temps way higher then that.

Even HW secrets, the site that gave it horrible reviews said that the build quality was decent.

Build Quality on the unit is decent. Capacitor choice, soldering quality, ect is not bad.
Though the unit is based on an old topology and can really only do 500w.

So all things considered, the unit is bad; but the physical aspects of it are not terrible.

Out of those 4 sites (and I don't know what those were), chances are Hardwaresecrets is the only one where they actually know what they're talking about...
Even though efficiency goes down and components are stressed more in the conditions under which HWS perform their tests, they do it that way because a good PSU should handle those fine. The only reason you're not really having any problems is because you're putting a 300W load on it.

Anyway, yes, as you've already found out, the squealing is a known issue with this unit... an RMA may or may not solve the issue for you. Sometimes putting electrical tape over the culprit coil can fix the issue, but you'd void your warranty doing so, and if it's a capacitor you're screwed anyway.

I'd just get a new unit if it were me. The Antec Neo Eco 400W won't break the bank. Or a Corsair CX400 if you can find one.

Also, you should read:
"Why 99% of PSU Reviews are wrong/bad"

Though I could simply say only trust PSU Reviews from:
Hard OCP, JonnyGuru, & PC Perspective

Though some sites also have "good" reviews. But not great ones.
Hardware Secrets, Kit Guru, & Overclock3D.

Then some have good reviews, but sometimes flawed methods or not the most knowledgeable reviewers.
Hardware Heaven, Tweak Town, Overclockers Club, & SilentPC Review

Um.. GOOD reviews?? That unit is crap!
Too bad I only found that out AFTER I bought it

This PSU is a 550W unit. I wonder how the heck is it able to support a 4Ghz i7 and a 5870.

Replace it immediately if you can.

Replace it immediately if you can.

Because the system is pulling less than 400W
