How to remove a package in arch

Thread Starter
I know the command of
Code:
sudo packman -R/-Rs package_name

Problem is, I want to remove some of the stock programs like solitaire. How do I go about finding what package_name is for these? In Mint, I would just right-click, uninstall. Everything I can find on the wiki is just the command, nothing about finding package names.

You could try:
Code:
# pacman -Qs
to display a list of currently installed packages...you probably just need to remove gnome-games or kdegames-nameofgame

You should read the Pacman wiki page and/or the pacman man page
Code:
$ man pacman
hope this helped a little...I'm pretty new to Arch myself.

Here's a one-liner if you know what the file is:
pacman -R `pacman -Qo $(which PROGRAMNAMEHERE) | awk '{print $5}'`

Or:

pacman -R `pacman -Qqo $(which PROGRAMNAMEHERE)`

The small q meaning quiet.

I want to preface this with, I'm a total arch noob, so some of these may sound dumb.

Then you can remove it using Rd

Why Rd vs. R vs. Rs?

Is there a time to use one or the other? Rd looks like it will only uninstall dependencies? R looks like it will only uninstall the base program, and Rs will uninstall the program and any dependencies it orphans? Trying to get a grasp on this.

-Rd skips dependency checks.

Type in pacman -Rh and it will explain it all.

The awk print $5 prints the 5th "case" of finding a word - it uses space as a delimiter by default, in this case the package name is word 5 in the output of pacman -Qo PACKAGENAME (you can try it yourself)
