Hurray!! Dell Troubleshooting!!

Thread Starter
My parents Dell is not working properly, when it boots up, it says that there is an error with the windows boot up information so I said okay, let's just put in the windows disk. When I do that, nothing happens it just sits there and after an hour of waiting for the windows installation I gave up. I tried to run Seatools bootable but it ran like complete garbage, the menus would not hardly work, so I ran the test on my computer and it passes the long test. I then installed my memory into the computer and still no luck. My next thought is the mobo but I don't know of any way to confirm my suspicions what do you guys think?

When you boot the system, spam F12 at the Dell Screen. It will bring up a one time boot menu. Select diagnostics and run the full system diagnostic. It will check everything from HD to com ports to fans.

EDIT: If you have reformatted the drive entirely you wont be able to run the diags from the HD as they are on a partition that you probably blew away as most people do to get that extra 50MB.....

If the diags fail the HDD test you can call Dell and theyll send you one under warranty if it is. All theyll want is the error code.

It is no longer warranty and funny enough it was a replacement for another Dell that kicked the bucket lol

you can download memtest to test the memory if you have already formatted the HDD. ultimate boot cd has some good tools too to test other parts.

Well I tried UBCD and it's great but what it can test, I have already done. I don't have any spare HDD's to test out so I can't say that it is the HDD for sure. I tried running SeaTools again in the Dell and the menu locks up before I can even start the test and lead me to belive that the HDD is not the problem. Any more ideas?
