Buy Fallout 3 After New Vegas?

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

So there is currently a major steam sale, and I'm determining whether it's worth it to get Fallout 3 GOTY or not. I already own Fallout NV, and people have told me that it's basically an update of F3 (new weapons, iron sight, reputation + karma, etc.). So is it worth it, or should I try another game?

If you loved NV, then you'll love FO3.. if you don't you wont. It offers plenty of cool story and side missions just like NV.

Get it dude. Now.

Then go to Fallout3nexus and download some awesome mods. You should be able to handle the lesser high-res texture mods too. Weather mods etc, all make it a better game than new Vegas. A lot of features in new Vegas have come from mods in F3.

If you enjoy playing Fallout then absolutely.

The storyline / plot is actually better IMO, there's plenty to do, and if you really like weapons, iron sights etc from NV you can mod FO3 just as easily

I would not... that's just me, I'm playing New Vegas. I done a crap load of sidequests and half way through main story. I never played Fall Out 3, but I have seen it's gameplay. I thought to myself, when I read the reviews and such of Fall Out 3. The game mechanics are actually simplied it in New Vegas. (i.e, Big Guns and Small Guns are now just Guns in FONV.) and like you stated with the updates.

I would prefer a new game. But don't let me stop you. If you want a different story and a little similar play then by all means go for it. It's just a different story line to me.

What I would get if you want a new game which i like would be Dragon Age if you haven't already played.

Yeah, I own Dragon Age, but I'm just so annoyed with the Dream/Fade quest xD

this. Fallout 3's writing isn't as good, and it has some differences in the way companions are handled etc, but it's basically the same game.

FO3 is connected to New Vegas by a common engine and one or two very minor references. STory wise they're unrelated. The WAsteland Survival Guide is the only FO3 reference I've come across in New VEgas so far and it's just a book that boosts your Survival skill by a couple of points.
