Windows 7 missing drivers Please help.

I just finished building my first computer and I tried to install Windows 7 ultimate through a USB drive (used both flashboot 2.0u and the microsoft provided convertor). But right after I click install windows a pop up saying

"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB Flash drive please insert now."

Then I get another popup saying "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers and then click OK"

I was wondering if anybody has a solution to this. I am using a USB flash drive just cause I don't have any DVD drives at the moment. Please help me out. Thanks in advance

I remember this being a common problem now. I had it once as well, but I can't remember how I fixed it frown.gif

From doing a bit of research around, it seems one thing you can try doing is going into the BIOS and setting the SATA controller to AHCI mode, it shouldn't be too hard to find the option. Give it a go, anyway, and report back tongue.gif

Yup, just make sure you enable 'msahci' in the registry before you change to AHCI in the BIOS.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click one of the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

8. Restart and change to AHCI

Unfortunately, the change to AHCI setting didnt help. I got the same Device driver isnt found problem. I also tried RAID as well to no avail. My HD is connected to the 6.0Gb/s port in my MoBo if that would cause any problems.

I can't enter my registry cause this is a new maching with no operating system on it yet so I can't do that change in the registry.

The specs on my machine by the way are:
Intel i7 950 3.06GHz
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi)
ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel MoBo
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s internal HD
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB(2x2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600(PC3 12800)

Oh I see. In that case you don't have to edit the registry at all, its only needed if you change the setting after windows is installed.

Have you successfully tested this USB to install windows 7 in another computer?
It might be the USB and you might want to use a DVD until you can sort out the issue with the USB, unfortunately.

Still haven't been able to install Windows 7 properly. I also keep getting the same problem with no drivers being found right after it says Processing Setup. Anybody have any clues how to fix this?

[Hey clark, i am new here but i am not new to building systems. I have the same issue and I think I have narrowed it down to the mob. I have 3 different flash drives that I have been using with windows 7 on em and they have worked fine on the other pc's at my home,(8 total). I have tried windows xp, 32 64, no go, windows 7 in different versions, no go(cd, dvd versions too, freshly burned, slow burned, nothing, my system is asus sabretooth, i7 920 bone stock, adata 1600 kingston 2000 various rams, no go, swap from ssd to regular hd to 2.5 hd, nothing. swap i7 920 to 930 to 950, nothing, man I am tired and this sucks. Tried from a 285 gtx to a 9800gtx to a blah blah blah(i have alot of parts(i sell parts too) so nothing. I did receive a bootleg version of windows xp that some one modified from a friend called windows xp final. It worked! but thats not what i want . anyways, to narrow it down, its the mob, Ive tried everything.

gonna try to rma the board with asus and see what they say. please post if you have come up with a solution.

I got a picture of that board up. I see it likely runs two different SATA controllers.

Try using different SATA ports. If you're using the white ports try the black ones and vice versa. Some of the ports might require pre-loading controller drivers so that the OS can install to it. You can try this too. See if you can find any such drivers from ASUS.
