Update: Switched to single card using new card. Ran 3DMark06 and played a few games and had 0 errors. Uninstalled Nvidia drivers using guide in grunion's sig. Reset BIOS to default settings. Installed second (old) card and bridge. Installed new drivers, rebooted. Got message saying my system is SLI capable, clicked message, selected Maximize 3D Performance, hit apply, changes start being applied and a few seconds later after screen refreshes computer still freezes

If you have tried using a new SLI bridge and it still does not work, the next thing to try is updating the BIOS of your P55 SLI (especially if you are still using the old BIOS that came initially with your board).
EVGA driver/BIOS download: http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/

Read the experience of this end user of your mobo. He had a similar problem of freezing after enabling SLI:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m...2&high=p55+sli
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m...5&high=p55+sli

I hope this solves your problem.

(And have you been using 260.99 released on 25/10/2010? The latest one is 263.09 but it is for GTX580/570 only. Do not be mistaken here.)

Wow thx for the reply, this may solve my problem. Only thing is, I called EVGA's tech support and they had me try booting up with only one card in the second PCI-E slot and when I did my computer wouldn't load the desktop, it would freeze at the login screen. So I'm thinking I may have a bad slot, though I suppose it couldn't hurt to try one more time with updated BIOS.

As your second PCIe slot does not seem to boot, it might be defective. This is probably a more likely cause. And, what did the EVGA tech support reply when you informed them of this?

But just as you said, a BIOS update could not hurt. If it works, it might save you from RMAing your board back to them.

ty windfire for your response, it worked. Updating the BIOS solved the problem, and you saved me so much headache and 2 weeks of boredom while I waited for my replacement mobo to arrive, you rock!! Thanks to everyone else for their input as well, much appreciated!

PS - 3DMark06 score went from 13535 to 21963 with the addition of the second GTX460 HAWT <3
