Also, make sure to look through the combo deals, here's the same CPU+Mobo:

I want it to be as reliable as possible and I think nvidia does a little bit better with drivers.

Oops! missed that one!

and I did get that combo deal!

Why did you skimp so much on the case?

I might have gone with a Phenom II X2 and taken my chances at unlocking the other 2 cores and might have opted for an 880 or 870 based motherboard.

Also, for the future, it's good to ask advice on possible builds before you make the purchase. It helps getting other points of view and suggestions that might steer you in a better direction. Much better than hearing you could have done a lot better for the money after the fact.

Not a bad build though.

She actually picked the case. She wants a plain case so her roommates friends don't think its anything special

I've only seen detailed reviews of the CX430. Which isn't a 430W PSU, it's a 300W PSU with bad ripple and poor efficiency. The old CX500 was a good buy, I'm not so sure anymore.

That's why I suggested an Antec Neo Eco 520W- more wattage, and it's on the recommended PSU list, and Phaedrus recommends it for the 500W range. The Corsair CX500 is not on the list, the VX550 is. And the Antec one is cheaper by $5.

Here's the CX430 breakdown: http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...hardtechx.html

I think the Corsair Builder (CX) series is trying to cash in on their brand name for good PSUs.

Edit: Also, if you don't mind buying stuff on the internets, You could buy this guy's setup to save some money, the X3 720 is a decent overclocker and 3 cores is more than enough. The L3 cache helps in gaming as well:

i was gonna recommend that MSI board, but nvm, lol.

the AMD Athlon X4 640 is 99 cents more and its 3.0ghz stock clock.

either the GTX460 or the 6850 will be a great card on a budget...

as far as the PSU dispute, im havin issues finding a reliable review of the CX 'builder series' PSUs, idk if the CX series use the same OEM manufacturer (Seasonic, and others) as the rock solid units do. those units made by seasonic are what gave corsair their name in the PSU world. i wouldnt buy a PSU till i found a reliable review of the internal workings. the Antec neo Eco however is a great PSU and i have put one in my friend's build and his comp is still going strong

aha!

from our own Phaedrus2129 on OCN:

Corsair pulled one of the oldest tricks in the shoddy PSU book, and rated it at room temperature. Ok, a smidgen above room temperature. 30 degrees Celsius, vs. 40-50C for all their other power supplies. So by rating the CX600 at thirty degrees instead of forty or fifty they can squeeze out an extra hundred watts. For an estimate, I'd say that the CX500 is a DSA 450W, and the CX600 is a DSA 500W.
thread located here

suspicion confirmed, Corsair is using their good reputation to save a few bucks, sad...

definately go with the Antec neo eco
