1000-1300 budget laptop

Thread Starter
Female friend is looking to pick up a laptop for casual gaming (mainly dota 2 when it comes out) and some work.

Ideally we're looking for something along the lines of:

13.3", but would consider 15
Relatively light
Plays dota 2 (definitely won't be playing maxed out)
No issues running Adobe suite

Fujitsu SH560 which comes with an i5450, GT310, 4gb ram. I'm not sure if the GT310 can run dota 2 adequately in a 5v5 situation late game when tons of creep are all over the place - roughly $1400

Another friend recently picked up a great deal on a HP Envy 13.3 for ~799 with i5 450 and HD5650 which he's been very happy with. Unfortunately, that model isn't available here in HK

VAIO E 15.5'' -VPCEB37FG i5 450, 5650, 4gb ram - $1200 or so, but my friend is scared that Sony laptops tend to break. I haven't really heard of this before myself, but that issue side, I think this is the best deal we've found in HK so far.

Any help is appreciated ^_^

look into getting a vaio z13. base specs and holiday coupon. it should run 1600x900 on its gt330 adequately. plus, it looks pro.

Yeah I'm actually looking at it right now, is there a huge difference between the 310 and 330? Notebook check shows roughly ~20% performance differnece.

I think a Vaio Z costs more than $1300 and GT310 would do fine under moderate settings for dota. BTW, the Fujitsu series laptop has great building quality. Some of them are made in Japan, just like the Sony Vaio Z/X.

So between the Fujitsu SH560 (i5/GT310/4GB) and the Vaio Z which would you pick assuming both are similarly priced?

I'd take the Vaio.

If she decides to play something more demanding than DOTA, the 5650 should help out here.

G310 is just weaksauce with most mainstream games.
