Mafia II fps limited by how fast your PhysX card is?

Thread Starter
I was having a problem with benching Mafia II after getting my 9800GT working with my GTX 470 again.

When I first started to run it I couldn't get it over 40 fps, around 38 or so. I was also getting very shaky and low gpu1 usage thoughout the benchmark and I thought for sure it was because of my 1090T.

It turns out the clocks on the physX card determine how much gpu1 is used (at least in my case). I had flashed my 9800GT back down a few notches today, and decided to flash it back and up the clocks up.

So with my 1090T at 4.4GHz, and my GTX 470 at 900 core with my 9800GT at 818/1915 I posted my highest bench for that game maxed out at 53 fps average.

I assume if I had a strong physx card, that didn't bottleneck my gtx 470 I could reach the same, or close to the same level of fps I'd get without PhysX. Has anyone seen similar results?

it is limited yes......

but it is also limited by your CPU

i mean it still needs normal graphical data lol

Well at this point the cpu isn't hitting 100% usage, but mafia II does seem to use all 6 cores so that's a major plus for the AMD side

I would think with a sightly better physx card 60 fps average would be obtainable.

His CPU isn't even close to limit anything in the way he plays.

When using a dedicated physx, everything related to physx is running on that card, instead of the CPU when using a non-dedicated card.

And to the OP, yes, the physx card's power does affect this game quite alot.
I tested the GTS250 and the GTX465 as physx cards (dedicated).
Going to the 465, I got more fps over the 250, and alot more over not using a dedicated card.
If you are using an old card, your performance impact will be higher.

Mafia 2 with no dedicated card (physx on one of the 470s):

Mafia 2 with dedicated GTX 465:

I hope this helps.

More than you could ever know.

Are all the physx cards at stock clocks?

Yeah they are at stock.
Until I finish my new project, I'm using my physx card as-is, complete stock speeds.
