Mafia II fps limited by how fast your PhysX card is? - Page 2

I can confirm that using Hybrid Physx the same issue with this game, I was using a 5850 oced 950/1300 + 9600GT.

I was getting 49 fps average on Mafia 2 (High Physx, all High, etc), when i swap the 9600 for a GTX 260 my fps goes around 69-75 fps and drop down to 59 just in the end of the benchmark, maybe because it was hybrid, i dont know, but in this game there is a difference between the card you are using for Physx.

For example in Batman Arkham Asylum i didn't see much improvement, only in the min fps, goes from 34 to 40 something like that, the max and average up 2 fps and the max stay the same (i think its because of the rendering from the 5850)

Im getting now a GTX 570, i hope it will be enough she alone to do the work, i dont want to keep the 9600 as dedicated physx

Its like giving a professor a physics problem. He is old, and tired, and he will easily solve it, but on his own damn time.

On the other hand, give the same problem to a hyper active drugs junky physics major, and he will solve it in quarter of the time, standing on his head, eating a cookie for his muchies with his feet, while singing loudly "Barbie Girl" by aqua while doing so.

Basicaly what every physx card you have, they will do the exact same thing.
But the difference is how much cube processors and how fast they are, which makes the difference. More processors and faster = faster physx computation = less impact on the fps.
So you will most likely never see 100% usage of your physx card. At most you will see high 60s or so, most of the time, unless you are doing physx benchmarkings.

And Fengatsu, the fps drop in the end is because there is alot going on in the last scene, so your fps drops a bit. Its normal.

I though it was for the Hybrid Physx because my fps were with high average during all the scene until Vito appears at the end while there is fire all around and the camara go out of that deposit and you see the windows explode.

Its always drop in there like 10 fps anyways the game itself was very playable and i enjoy it

Yeah me too.

Even tho you get a small fps drop on some places in the benchmark, doesn't mean you will get the same while gaming. Usualy real time gaming you will get a bit higher fps over the benchmarked ones constantly.

Yes, it seems the rest of the game is waiting on my 9800GT to finish the physx calculations before my gtx 470 is even allowed to render another frame, hence the lower gpu usage on my main card

So whats the moral of the story? Get a faster PhysX card or get a better GPU?

Faster physX card to the point were your main card is at 100% usage, then upgrade the main card and continue spending money on a black hole of an emotional wasteland.

To be fair, I got the 9800GT first

I just saw your thread, 48 fps with better hardware

Time to hit 4GHz on that i5
