New Build need help with overclocking

Thread Starter
I have asus rampage formula with cosair dominator ddr3 1600 ram, trying to overclock to 4ghz. I have a pretty stable prime at 1.28 cpu volt but my ram is clocked down to 1395, whenever I try to up the ram 1700 and something I get a blue screen in prime. what are my options? I've tried raising the cpu volts a little, also tried increasing the dram volts which is at 1.590, I'm new to overclocking, Thanks for any help.

You should go the user cp and fill out your system specs, it would help to know what cpu, ect, and also the BCLK and multi your on.

Aren't Dominators a 1.65v kit? You'll need that to get them stable at 1600 and you'll need to loosen the timings to run them at 1700.

Your right they are 1.65v, for some reason I thought they were 1.6 for the ram. I changed that the bios gives me some warning about intel cpus not liking more the 1.6 something volts to the ram? now I don't get a blue screen just a failed core after 10 mins or so. Thanks for the help.

Problem I'm having now is blue screens, seems like I can run 4ghz core volts 1.29 with the ram at 1395 for quite awhile without blue screening haven't got to do it for hours yet ,when I increase the ram to 1700's which it defaults at for 4.0ghz it blue screens after a few seconds to mins of prime95 , I'm not sure what to do at this point? Thanks.

Set your ioh and ich to 1.2, your vdimm to 1.65, your cpu pll to 1.88, and your qpi/uncore to 1.35.
set your vcore to 1.3 Bclk to 190/191 and multiplier to 21

That is the 4ghz for a 930.. Should work for a 950 aswell.

Anything not listed above should be set to auto..
Get this Stable Then work your Vcore down if you can.

You should be good for 191x21 - this is the most common route for 4GHz and it will also put your ram at pretty much its rated speed (just below) so it shouldn't cause you issues. Take a look at this thread.

So far so good with those settings, my temps are in the upper 60's to lower 70's. so I should just keep stress testing an lowering the vcore till it's not stable correct? should I try for 4.2 later on or will the temps get to high? thanks.

If it passes your ok...

Get your lowest Vcore.. Then post in here what it is and ill let you know if it is ok to try for 4.2ghz

The Serial Number for 3d mark Vantage is located on your MB driver cd pocket.
