Thinking about getting a SSD need help.

Thread Starter
So probably looking at one to be my boot drive and open programs faster. I was wondering also how you would configure a SSd to do this? Do you need to have a new operating system installed on it? Can it work in RAID configuration with a regular harddrive and act as one hardrive showing up? I'm new to this stuff so any help much appreciated!

SSD is a replacement for a HDD.

So whatever a HDD can do, a SSD can do.

so yes you need to reinstall Windows, or image it across to your SSD when you buy it.

Install stuff you don't want on the SSD on the HDD (which you could have as D: or E: drive)

Guides I made:
Fresh install: http://www.overclock.net/ssd/890571-guide-installing-windows-7-new-drive.html
Image old Windows to new drive: http://www.overclock.net/ssd/887271-guide-move-your-old-windows-onto.html

Sounds like this guy is just making excuses to look at his special little guides tongue.gif

BUTTTT yea, just treat it like a regular HDD except this is the first kid picked for kickball and not the last like the loser HDD kid.

SSD KId <-- smil3dbd4e4c2e742.gif (get beer since he is cool)

HDD Kid <--- gunner.gif (Dies)

Just install Windows and do everything like you normally would. Just dont defragment it since it will wear the drive down and it doesn't really benefit the SSD anyways.

haha yeah plugging the guides... gotta do it

but in this case, if you never had more then 1 hard drive, you wouldn't be familiar with unplugging your other drives whilst installing, and if you never had an SSD, AHCI mode would PROBABLY be foreign, so the guide has some merit.

Yea, or you could be like me and format the wrong drive because you stupid and then freak out because all you music, photos, videos, businesses, websites etc are on it!

Thankfully I found a program that would retrieve all the files since I didn't write to the drive at all.
