Thread Starter
I'm going to get my parts in tomorrow from newegg. Planning on setting up everything, install windows, verify everything's up to par (going to run prime95 to get an overview of how well my set up is stock). Planning on overclocking afterward.

Wondering if there are any users out there with the same cpu + mobo. I'd love to get a couple of copies of your BIOS set up to get an idea of what to set up in BIOS, of course, I'll be tweaking it to better stability and temperature. It isn't 100% the same obviously.

I'm aiming really just for 4.0ghz for my CPU. The ram maybe 1700 (got the G.Skill 1600 ripjaw 8GB). Also throwing in an aftermarket cooler for my precious 950 smile.gif.

I know it is not a good idea, but my set up will have a BFG 650W PSU with "turbo" or whatever that is (there's a button in the back supposedly turns up the wattage? It's always on anyway. I forgot what it does really.) Anyway, is 4.0ghz possible with that PSU without surging? I want to save money by not upgrading a PSU too. However if I have to, then by all means I will.

Awesome forum by the way!

Look at this thread. Don't look at the first post check out the second one, a 950 is pretty much the same thing as a 920/930 so you should get similar results.

I can't seem to tweak the Vcore to the 1.25-1.29 area. It runs fine if I turn it up to 1.35. Is this ok?

I want to have 4.0, and the ram to 1600-1700. Voltage anything in the safe zone. Not sure whether 1.30+ zone is safe...

i7 950
sabertooth x58 asus
g.skill 1600 8gb
thermaltake PSU 875W
thermaltake aftermarket cooler

edit:

I really want to keep this set up:

Core Speed: 4025Mhz
Multiplier: x23.0
Ram clock: 1760MHz timings at 9-9-9-24

Vcore 1.33
QPI is at 1.32
Dram voltage is at 1.65

I'm assuming my issue is the voltage (I'm getting blue screens and fatal hardware error on prime95). Help please.

lower the ram to 2:8 then you should be fine, its the ram speed that's probably giving you issues.

That ratio was present. So that shouldn't be it.

Quick question, for voltages I just mess around with VCore, QPI/DRAM, DRAM Bus right? I've been reading guides and some tend to mess around with additional voltage settings, and some don't. So I'm pretty confused right now.

Is it possible to stabilize any BCLK frequency/Multiplier/RAM frequency (below or slightly higher then 1600) and timing combination???? This is my main question.

Like I said above, would really love to keep
Core Speed: 4025Mhz
Multiplier: x23.0
Ram clock: 1760MHz timings at 9-9-9-24

I could change the timing if anything.

Also what are my future expectations in running CPU Voltage at 1.30-1.35 range? Less life expectancy I'm assuming, correct?

I have my 3.8 same cpu and mb at 1.225. I tried 4.0 at around 1.25 and it was stable for an hour or two but temps were kinda high for my system. I think you should try 1.275 first. I only messed with vcore and the QPI.

What do you mean MB?

Could you share your set up: CPU frequency/Multiplier/Ram? Thanks

I7 950's do not get as high with voltages that low fr some reason. Almost every stable > 4.0 GHZ overclock i have seen on a I7950 the vcore was close to or over 1.4v

Im running the exact same clock as you are on the exact same setup and my v-core is 1.4 and It still crashes after 10 hours or so of prime 95
