Im running the exact same clock as you are on the exact same setup and my v-core is 1.4 and It still crashes after 10 hours or so of prime 95

And what are your temps?

My overclock is stable with 1.272v.

Also just because you have the same processor/setup does not mean you have similar chips. Some are just better than others. Perhaps you got a bad one?

Also use Intel Burn Test instead of prime. The stress output from 8 minutes of IBT is equal to like 40 hours of Prime95.

I have the same setup i7 950 w/x58 Sabertooth.

So far the most stable I've been able to run it is at

23x175 @ 4025Ghz
RAM: 1400mh 7-7-7-20
Vcore: 1.320
QPI: 1.333 (not sure but around that range)
DRAM: 1.65
Everything else on Auto. Sometimes I tweak the other voltages but havent really delved into them.

So far stable at Intel burntest for 150 runs (8threads and Max RAM). Also passed the 8hour prime small FTT test for 8hours and blend for 8hours.

Temps are around 33c-35c Idle and 69c-72c Full load. This is using an NH-D14.

I was really curious as how some were able to lower their Vcore to 1.2+ for some reason on my chip thats stable for a couple of hours but BSODs after.

Yea I must have a bad chip or something. Ive gone back to the the basics and started again so many times. Nothing I do will let me use a vcore under 1.38v to get anywhere near 4.0 and m still struggling with it. Its a do stepping i950, but I am thinking I may have got a bad one....frown.gif

going through the guides, I usually end up with something like a 1.25 stable QPI/VTT with memory at 1440 8-8-8-24 Uncore frequency 3086mhz which is jsut memory x 2[my mobo doesn't use a multi for that]

and right now I just have my vcore on auto. the Mobo is setting it to 1.42 eek.gif

bclk 193 x 21 = 4051

Temps are stil under 85c when running intel burn but im att the vcore limit and still crashing... Im just scaling up the QPI/VTT to see where it stops. With a Vcore this high i should at least know where the QPI ends right?
Ive tried at high as 1.35 with a vcore of 1.3625 and was still crashing. So i decided to start at the bottom again.

^When I had this board and even now, I didn't have to touch QPI, I just set it to 1.20. This is for similar 1400 speeds on sabertooth and 1600 on rampage. Try running a memtest to make sure it isn't your ram.

3996MHz (173*23) @ 1.28V

DDR3 1737 9-9-9-27 @ 1.64V

QPI/VTT 1.255V, CPU PLL 1.75V, QPI PLL 1.24V, IOH Core 1.2V, ICH I/O 1.5V, ICH Core 1.2V

BCLK 173, QPI GT/s 6254, UnCore Clock 3475

CPU Differential Amplitude 800mV

That ratio was present. So that shouldn't be it.

HEY!!! I'm overclocking an I7-950 in a Sabertooth X58 right now! I've read plenty of forum posts all over the place about how to proceed with this. This is my initial overclock ever so I'm a little overwhelmed. After studying this stuff I've come up with this method to overclocking this system. Please review and advise if you would be so kind!

1. Decide on final overclocking speed (me = 4.6ghz)
2. Work BLCK and CPU Ratio to capitalize on memory stable memory speed near memory sticks standard speed (me = 1600mhz therefore...
CPU Ratio = 23
BLCK = 200
3. Keep UCLK + QPI to Auto.
4. Set memory to XMP settings (manually).
5. Lower CPU multiplier to 14 and test memory using Memtestv4.20. (Increase Dram Core Voltage until memory tests run without fail, never exceeding the Dram bus Voltage of 1.65v).
6. Increase CPU multiplier incrementally and test in Prime95 small FTT until fail or until it reaches 23.
7. If it fails pre CPU ratio = 23, then adjust vcore until stable.

I've read of other settings to fix and adjust, but haven't learned the reason just yet like LCC and tweaking other voltage. I think the above method could get me close to my desired speed and then I would proceed to tweak the other voltages down. Please comment on my method and inform of any vital mistakes I might be making.

I am currently testing the memory according to the above as we speak... next will be bumping the CPU ratio for a stable operation. Thanks...
