Need help with NZXT Phantom window modding

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I've got a little problem here.
So, a friend of mine modded a window out of my NZXT side panel, but with the plexiglas the side panel couldn't close anymore. It isn't straight and it's impossible to allineate it with the holes on the case.

p1010046vi.jpg

Right now, I removed the plexi so that I can at least close it without much effort, but I still notice that it isn't perfectly straight. I don't remember it being like this before, but maybe I'm wrong and I didn't notice it. Could it be a fabrication problem?

My friend isn't really an ultra-experienced modder, and he doesn't know what to do. Do you guys have any idea?

Given the problem, it would be better a flexible acrylic I guess. But still, it doesn't solve the fact that the panel isn't straight..
Do you have an idea?

Hello. smile.gif

Have you inspected the perimeter of the new window to ensure that it is not interfering with the travel/seating of the panel?

As for mis-alignment, perhaps the side panel frame was tweaked (warped) a little when during the modification process. To check for warping carefully and gently lay the side panel on a completely flat surface and use your finger to place pressure on various section of the panel. If there is some minor warping then full-contact will not be present and the there will be some "give" in the panel.

No, the acrylic doesn't interfere at all with the seating.

As for the warping, I didn't find any. But instead, I found out that the panel isn't solid at all, and the top-rear corner "swings" a little (lol don't know how to say it in english), probably because of the hole for the window. It could be that the plexi, once glued, makes some wrong tension on the panel - hence the misallignment.

I think this is a fit & finish problem of the Phantom. The stock side panel (at least mine) was made poorly because it flexes back and forth because apparently the metal isn't a perfect square or something. It's hard to describe but it seems like it flexes diagonally and sometimes the flex causes the side fans to grind against the fan filter unless they're screwed on really really tight... it's pretty weird. I'm not sure how cutting out a window exacerbated this problem, especially because 2mm acrylic isn't really all that thick and does have some flex... but I think it's the originally fit (lack of) that's causing your problem.

I'm currently dremeling up my Phantom side panel as well for a window so I guess this thread served as a warning for what I may encounter..

Thank you for posting! I figured it out at last, but I didn't know if I was the only one. Please let me know if you solve the problem! My only solution atm is leaving the window without the plexi lol it's ok for a week or even a month but certainly not forever frown.gif
