Is using a molex to 6 pin OK?

Thread Starter
I'm about to install my 4850, but I'm out of 6 pin power connectors. I have a two molex to 6 pin adapter that I'm going to use.

Now, before I mess something up, does it matter which molex cable coming from the PSU I use? My PSU has four rails and I don't want to overload anything.

Sorry if this is a bit confusing. If you need more details ask me.

If you are only using one GPU you will be fine any way you do it.

If you're just using it for a second display card, you'll be fine with any of the Molex cables. In fact, you may not even need to plug it in for just a display card.

Using a 2x Molex to 6-Pin would be better, but a Molex to 6-Pin would be OK.

I don't think that would work. My 4830 didn't like that when I had to test a motherboard, and without a good PSU.

Just about to ask this. Will I be alright with my 5870 + an 8800GTS 512 on 2 x molex to 6 pin running F@H/physx?

Eh. You should be, but that's pushing it.

Also: Tell me if you can get that 8800GTS to fold. I can't get my 8500GT to fold, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

No, I'm using it for folding. So the load will be 100% all the time.

The reason I'm out of 6-pin connectors is because I'm leaving my GTX 460 in there.

No, not hijacking at all. That's pretty close to what I'm asking.

Can I assume you're using the 4850 for display purposes only? Then you should be more than fine.

I am pretty sure you can set that up. It's just that not all PSUs are created equal.
